SYNOPSIS…

PART 1
Sometimes you get really pissed off at God for abandoning you. Then Boom! God is there … in your bathroom, of all places. And it dawns on you that everything could never be anything outside of itself so you don’t have to worry about being abandoned by anyone … ever. It’s kinda like remembering that you forgot you remembered who you are. Pickin up what I’m droppin? Well, you might if you listen to Jessica Leia as she chats about an experience that adjusted her thinking a bit and put a new blip on her radar … a lot of blips, actually. And how the Divine WIFI is something that we can all tap into when we leave enough bandwidth available for it. Unless of course, we rather just sit around and be cry asses all the time.

PART 2
See a quick recap of the chat Jessica Leia had with you last week about her song: “You Are the One”. Then enjoy as she pulls the keys in close and sings it for yu!
SOLO Song Description
An intimate and haunting ballad; “You Are the One” is performed solo by Jessica Leia. Written in a 6/8 time and in a minor key, the song expresses a feeling of mystery and cosmology. Jessica Leia sings heartfelt lyrics about the continued search for communion with the Divine.

PART 3
You can go back in to time immediately from this space. Or maybe it’s go back in to space from that point in time…? That might sound confusing but figuring out how to go in and out of time IS pretty tricky business. It’s a good thing that musicians are good at time travel! Join Jessica Leia and the band this week on “Me and My Song”, as they head on in to a recording studio, time travel, take a bunch of takes, and get a bit testy with each other. Don’t worry though – there’s plenty of sock lint and hugs to go around at the end. Especially when the cam guy FINALLY does something right!

PART 4
Jessica Leia walks you through the journey of the writing and the recording of this month’s song: “You Are the One” and then plays the fully mixed, mastered and produced version of the song, to the backdrop of a really cool rock star music video.
ELECTRIC Song Description
“You Are the One” is an intimate and haunting ballad. Written in a 6/8 time and in a minor key, this song takes you on a cosmic journey… inside of yourself. Starting out sparse, "You Are the One" grows into a crescendo of beauty as a fluid lead guitar weaves in and out with an atmospheric grand piano and other instrumentation. All the while, Jessica Leia sings heart felt lyrics about the continued search for communion with the Divine.

“It’s So Fun” – SOLO: With just her playful vocals and punchy acoustic guitar, Jessica Leia performs “It’s So Fun”, all upbeat, playful and sassy like. That is of course a description of the music, itself, as well as the lyrics, which playfully poke the bear and dare you to laugh a little at life. A Pop-Rock Acoustic tune that bounces between bar chords and open chords, “It’s So Fun” is sure to leave you in a better mood than you were in before yu heard it!

“It’s So Fun” – Studio Version: “It’s So Fun” IS so fun! A Pop-Rock playful tune, with punchy guitars and nifty drum fills: think Spin Doctors meets Steve Miller meets George Michael…. Uh, but with a female vocalist. Vocals, by the way, that playfully poke the bear and dare you to laugh a little at life. “It’s So Fun” is sure to leave you in a better mood than you were in before yu heard it!

SYNOPSIS…

PART 1
Go ahead and grab yourself some kind of beverage before you watch Jessica Leia take the stage, but don’t worry about a snack because this week on “Me and My Song”, she is going to give you PLENTY to chew on. It won’t just be the unabashed honesty with which she explains her misguided and often times destructive love life. She will also bend your mind as she discusses the realities of how impossible happiness is when you are suffering from brain washing mind programs – and don’t even realize it! Not, like project Mockingbird programs, more like, the “Bullshit Romantic Fantasy Software Program” … which is actually more like a virus, really. A virus that has led Jessica - and more than likely many of us - on a path of heartache and sometimes even destruction, until we can break the spell of our programming and just be present with ourselves and each other, long enough to see things for what they are, instead of resenting them for not being what they’re not. And that, my friends, is why this month’s song: “Something Better” was ever even born!

PART 2
Jessica Leia rocks the keys and blasts the vocals in this solo rendition of “Something Better”. This song starts out sweet and gentle but quickly rocket blasts into an inspirational tale of waking up from the illusions of love and realizing that is a good thing. You’ll hear hints of Alanis Morissette and Melissa Etheridge when the vocals get rough, and keys reminiscent of 90’s pop-rock style, but Jessica makes it all her own as she belts out a heartfelt and determined story about finding something better.

PART 3
SO much fun to just hang out with the team and see how this month’s song, “Something Better” gets recorded in real time by real people with a real dog in the studio that adds real dog farts to the experience. Ok, maybe that last part isn’t THAT fun. But hey, we keep shit real here on “Me and My Song”, so join us in studio this week as Jessica Leia teases her drummer Rich about not knowing the parts of the song and as she also breaks out into random song improvising mid recording session. Rich decides to bust out some random song singing as well, but his song makes no G*dman sense. Smh.

Watch in wonder as master producer, guitar player and bbq-er, Dean Kattari lays down each layer of this super groovy pop-rock song like a pro, (because he IS one)! So what if he knocks over a couple of mics and pisses off the bass guitar union of America in the process? Enjoy the fun and be happy this isn’t smell-a-vision…

PART 4
Join Jessica Leia as she goes in studio to record some final vocals this week on “Me and My Song”! She will walk you through the adventures of this month’s musical adventures which naturally lead to the culmination of this month’s song:

“Something Better”…

Open up your ragtop and get cruising with “Something Better” playing loud through the speakers because well, it’s just that kind of song! With a beautifully blended wall of pop sound to back her up, Jessica Leia lays on some powerful vocals that tell of an inspirational tale about waking up from the illusions of love and realizing that is a good thing. It sounds like it could be a song from Disney or the Never-Ending Story, but Jessica makes it all her own as she belts out a heartfelt and determined story about finding something better.

PART 1
Sometimes you go out for all of your dreams and they end up turning into poop. Caca. Terd, terd. But hey, that’s better than just sittin’ around and settling for just getting by. At least that’s what Jessica Leia has concluded. And she will tell you, in comic detail, all about her dreams that went to poop, here on “Me and My Song” in PART 1 of this month’s Episode: “Just Getting By.”
Come see about all of the adventures surrounding this month’s song, “Just Getting By” and how they led Jessica to some pretty interesting places, like driving through burning forests. And to some pretty interesting people, like folks from Wiccan and Christian record labels. Yes: Wiccan AND Christian.
Moral of the story this week is to make no mistake; that Law of Attraction shit really does work. Just look out, because if you aren’t happy on the inside when you’re tryin’ to make a happy life on the outside, it’s very possible that you may run into things like black mold and termites, crooks at the DMV and fungus growing out of your ears. (P.S. You may also find that motorcyclists run into YOU.) … Not even kidding.

PART 2
Jessica Leia gives a recap on the wild and wooly circumstances that surround this month’s song: “Just Getting By.” Then she sings it for yu SOLO, in ‘The Raw Reveal’ portion of this month’s episode here on “Me and My Song” … “Just Getting By” is a waltz that Jessica will play for you, solo, on acoustic guitar. It is a ballad that seems like a cross between an old Irish folk song and something that “The Carpenters” may have sung once upon a time. The song is an intimate and tender tune about the internal struggles one faces when they acknowledge that their life hasn’t quite turned out the way they had hoped…

PART 3
We’re experimentin’ in the recording studio this week here on “Me and My Song”! Join Jessica Leia and Producer, Dean Kattari while they (and Mr. Rich DiBenedetto on percussion), take a previously recorded tune (that was a recording studio disaster), and bring it back to life! Muahaha!!
That would be of course, this month’s song: “Just Getting By”. You’ll watch as Jessica makes chicken pluck sounds AND has déjà vu while recording her guitar tracks. And also, as Rich shakes some ninja salt shakers on top of Jessica’s guitar tracks, (which naturally, reminds Jessica of doing hallucinogenics). You’ll also learn how to make sprinkle, tinkle sounds with hot rods (not to be mistaken for hot dogs). Warning: sprinkle tinkle sounds may lead one to feel as if they are in an altered state of mind.
There were no drugs in the making of this video, but there sure were some tasty basic tracks laid down… so tasty you could eat ‘em! … Depending on how hungry you are. Enjoy all these magical, behind the scenes moments! And remember kids: you can experiment with music too.

PART 4
Jessica Leia takes you on a quick tour of this last month’s musical adventures here on “Me and My Song”, and then she presents you with the culmination of this month’s musical adventures: “Just Getting By”.

PART 5
Well, just like in Season One of “Me and My Song”, we had to have at least one recording session go kaputs here in Season Two! So welcome to this season’s first BONUS SUNDAY, which presents to you a recording session gone wrong. There was no music used from this session in the final recording of this month’s song, “Just Getting By”, but that doesn’t make the recording session any less entertaining. SO, enjoy all of the madness (as in “crazy” and as in “being pissed off”) in all of these fabulous, behind the scenes moments and discover how and why this session ended up not turning out so well… Hint: It wasn’t because of all the dirty talk and inappropriate remarks. In fact, it probably had something more to do with that fact that everybody kind of sucked at playing the song. Good thing Jessica Leia was there to chew everyone out for not doing their homework.

SYNOPSIS…

PART 1
What do you get when you cross a Patsy Cline rhythmic pattern with a cacophony of noise created by music students? (drumroll please) … Well, you get this month’s song: “Shadow”. Join Jessica Leia this first week of the month here on “Me and My Song”, as she (and a number of her subpersonalities) tell the story behind the writing of “Shadow”. She will share childhood nightmares, reflections upon the extreme potentials in all of us and how incredibly ugly her shadow self is. But don’t worry, Jessica doesn’t diss her shadow self just because it’s ugly – instead she embraces it, because like it or not, it IS there.

PART 2
Join Jessica Leia this week on “Me and My Song” as she inserts a re-cap from last week about the behind the scenes writing of this month’s song: “Shadow” … Then she’s gonna sing it for yu! … SOLO, in The Raw Reveal portion of this month’s episode of “Me and My Song”. Because of its upbeat, Honky-Tonky kind of shuffle, “Shadow” will have you bobbin' your head to Jessica Leia's bouncy, Honky-Tonk piano playing. But it will also have you rubbing your chin in thought when you notice that those playful, yet sultry sounding vocals are actually singing about something very dark... Enjoy. And if Jessica starts screamin’, don’t worry about it – it’s only her shadow.

PART 3
Welcome to week 3 this month here on “Me and My Song”. Jessica Leia and the band are headin’ on down to Mega Sonic or Ultra Sonic or Something Sonic Studio (I mean, what’s in a name, really?), to record The Basic Tracks of this month’s song: “Shadow”! There will not only be difficulties figuring out the name of the place, but also difficulties figuring out when to change chords and stuff. (Insert shoulder shrugging emoji here) … There will be plenty of bickering amongst the rhythm section, some booby traps and an abundance of communication problems for the viewing audience to enjoy. Because hey, these things can be complicated. Fortunately, Jessica’s, female brain is used to complicated. But don’t worry, even though recording this song is a real bear, all of those wild and wooly musicians will figure it out in the end… Especially once Jessica admits that she’s the problem… Ummm… you guys aren’t supposed to agree with her when she says that…

PART 4
Well hi there and hello from all of us multiple personalities here on “Me and My Song”… Come along as Jessica Leia recaps y’all some reminders about how it’s all gone this month exploring the song, “Shadow”. Then you can open a seat and pull up a beer while you enjoy listening to the final culmination of the tune: fully mixed, mastered and produced for your listening pleasure.
"Shadow" is a surprisingly playful and upbeat Honky-Tonky kind of song. There will be Honky-Tonk piano, slide guitar, and a shuffle beat. You will be bobbing your head to this quasi-classic Country sounding tune, but also rubbing your chin in thought as you notice that those playful sounding vocals are actually singing about something very dark...

SYNOPSIS…

PART 1
A parasite just wants a nice home…. AND to destroy you. Join Jessica Leia this week on “Me and My Song” as she explains the inspiration behind this month’s song: “My Soul”… A song that clearly explains how it feels to be violated by a “Parasite Person”. What’s a “Parasite Person”, you say? Well, some people are parasites and Jessica Leia calls them “Parasite People”. You may know one or two of them. They usually do things like suck the life out of you and make you feel horrible about who you are, all the while, going around acting sweet as pie to everyone else. “Parasite People”, just like parasite, parasites, literally change your brain so that you will unwittingly do things to create an environment that better suits their survival… and then they’ll leave you for dead. But hey, Jessica Leia is here to remind you that as horrible as that all may sound, at least sometimes “Parasite People” also inspire you to write music.

PART 2
Jessica Leia gives you a quick recap of last week’s story behind this song: “My Soul” … and then she sings it for yu! On a dark stage, with just her voice and her piano, Jessica Leia delivers a beautiful, yet dark and brooding ballad. It is a ballad of theatric proportions, reminiscent of something you might hear in the Phantom of the Opera. But in this story, the song isn’t about a love that can never be, it is a song about a love that was and that resulted in the violation of the deepest part of a human being: their soul.

PART 3
The thing about recording intense music is that everybody at the recording session always gets so gosh darn sensitive! At least that’s what happens this week on, ”Me and My Song”, as Jessica Leia and the band head on down to a recording studio to record The Basic Tracks for this month’s song: “My Soul”. Be prepared for inner wounded child issues, random folks coming in off of the street with random bags of dog poop aaaand lizard people. Yes, I said lizard people. Nothing to be afraid of here though, we’re just hangin’ out and recording music while we trust in the eternal nature of our souls…

PART 4
Jessica Leia’s gonna take you on a walk down memory lane so you can have a look at the wild musical adventures she has had while creating this month’s song: “My Soul”. And then, well, gee golly, she’s gonna show the music video that is, of course, comprised of all the footage she has collected over the last month and where, of course, you will be able to enjoy the final, recorded, mixed and mastered version of the 2nd tune for Season 2 here on “Me & My Song”!
“My Soul” is a beautiful, yet dark and brooding ballad. Jessica Leia’s sultry and severe vocals lay on top of an instrumental background filled with ambient minor sounds and haunted tones. It is a song of theatric proportions, reminiscent of something you might hear in the Phantom of the Opera. But in this story, the song isn’t about a love that can never be, it is a song about a love that was and that resulted in the violation of the deepest part of a human being: their soul.

SYNOPSIS…

PART 1
Are you watching the show or starring in it? Jessica Leia pretty much feels like she’s always doing both in this show we call life. That, she says, is part of why this month’s song “Welcome to the Show,” was ever even born.
Learn the history of how Jessica was chillin’ in a theta brain wave state when a sudden peace about life and all of its goings-on inspired her to write this tune. In fact, Jessica says life wrote this song for her, she just had to make sure to rhyme the words at the end of each line with words at the end of the next line.

And please do step right up as a double-sided task master mischievously tries to sell you tickets to this somewhat questionable show, all the while, ensuring you that you can’t put a price on such an event … even though you will die at the end.

Enjoy a little story about when - whilst on “medicine” - Life, herself came to visit Jessica in order to set Jessica straight about what it means to actually embrace Life.

In the end, even with all the potential hazards of living in this show we call life, (like lions and tigers and bears … and STD’s), Jessica still stands by the lyrics in this month’s song “Welcome to the Show” that assuredly state: “Don’t be afraid, it’s just life!”

PART 2
Jessica Leia sings "Welcome to the Show" for yu’ – SOLO - in the Raw Reveal. Join Jessica and her friend Grace, as she performs for you a finger snappin' kinda song, in good ol' fashioned “girl with a guitar” style - a song about the show we call life!

PART 3
This week on “Me and My Song”, Jessica Leia and her band of wild hooligans are heading over to Skyline studios to record The Basic Tracks for “Welcome to the Show”. As always, there will be lots of sarcasm, lots of chocolate and LOTS of doo doos … wait wha? … as Jessica Leia and the guys try to remember what the heck they rehearsed yesterday, so that they can actually record it today… Yesterday can seem so long ago sometimes.

And it can be rather difficult to communicate in a recording session when people are all separated from each other, so sometimes you ultimately just end up talking to the hand. (Insert emoji hand here) But something must get accomplished in this recording session because at the end of the day, Jessica made a whole, entire video about it! So, have a seat and join the bass player in pulling out some fat rolls because it’s time to rock AND roll! ….. Dah doo dah doo doo doo…

PART 4
Hopefully you've enjoyed taking a look at the wild musical adventures Jessica Leia has had while creating this month’s song: “Welcome to the Show”.
'Cause, well, gee golly, she’s gonna show the music video that is, of course, comprised of all the footage she has collected over the last month and where, of course, you will be able to enjoy the final, recorded, mixed and mastered version of the very first tune for Season 2 here on “Me & My Song”!

Me & My Song SE1 Episode 11

“Mixdown Month”

PART 1:
Come along this week on “Me and My Song” as the recording of this Season’s album is finally getting wrapped up! On this PART 1 / week 1 of “Mixdown Month”, join Jessica and some of the other familiar faces from the season, as you get walked through some of the final processes that go in to putting an album together. You’ll get to learn some of the teensy, tiny, little details that go in to editing and mixing down music. You’ll also get to learn that Jessica has trust issues and doesn’t really know what’s going on. And while that may not be surprising, you MAY be surprised to know that this installment only has an ALMOST happy ending. But enjoy it anyway!

PART 2:
Hey we’re just hangin’ out here, editing and mixing and mastering some music during Mixdown Month on “Me and My Song”. Come take a look at what kind of crazy stuff happens when you spend hours working on your music projects …. (Like going kind of crazy, for example).
This week, for PART 2 of “Mixdown Month”, Jessica Leia works hard with an engineer on editing and mixing down a song. You will learn about how all the pop stars fix their sour notes with software, how it’s best to have more than one brain working on a project at once and how important banana time is. (Almost as important as having a banana phone). Watch and learn all about the secrets of music production inside of magic software, as Jessica discovers that it’s not all it’s cracked up to be and she also tries to figure out (as per usual), what the heck is going on!

PART 3:
Hey we’re just hangin’ out here, editing and mixing and mastering some music during Mixdown Month on “Me and My Song”. It may not be the funnest job in the world, but somebody’s gotta do it! And hey, we’re pretty fun, so if you’re gonna see how this stuff works behind the scenes, you may as well check it out with us! ESPECIALLY since there will be medieval rabbits filleting some poor, Roman guy… (Ok, that doesn’t NORMALLY happen during music editing, but no one here ever claimed to be normal).

PART 4:
Hey we’re just hangin’ out here, editing and mixing and mastering some music during Mixdown Month on “Me and My Song! In this final PART 4 of Mixdown Month, Jessica Leia interviews Steve Savage about the elements of mixing and mastering while she spits on him… But it’s ok, Steve’s cool with it. <shrugging shoulders>

Verse 1
Well I was just sittin’ around. I was just lookin’ for God
Searchin’ for some truth.
I was just prayin’ for Paradise, so it didn’t seem odd
when I found you.

Verse 2
Well, you could call it coincidence, you could say it was luck;
or that you fell out of the blue. But when you consider the circumstance,
I think you’d have to admit that, that isn’t true.

Chorus
Cause I was just lookin’ just lookin’ for a little bit of Heaven –
When along came you.

Verse 3
I’ll bet you didn’t know you’re a miracle.
I’ll bet you weren’t even aware,
that you’re my living proof,
that allows me to testify
to the power of prayer.
And I surely do.

Chorus
‘Cause I was just lookin’, just lookin’ for a little bit of Heaven –
when along came you

Bridge
They say the Lord works in mysterious ways and in all my days, Lordy I’d say
that’s true.
‘Cause I was lookin’ for wings and halos and things like pearly gates I gotta say
I never knew, an angel could look just like you.
Yaba-dabba-doo!

Verse 4
Well I was just sittin’ around. I was just lookin’ for God.
Searchin’ for some truth.
I was just prayin’ for Paradise so it didn’t seem odd
When I found you.

Me & My Song SE1 Episode 12

“The Album Release Party”

PART 1:

The first of the last! That’s right the PART 1 segment of the FINAL episode of “Me and My Song” Season 1 is here! Jessica Leia and the band are gonna take you there. Where, you say? To the album release party of course. Because, after you go through all the work of making an album, you naturally want to share it with everyone!
Enjoy this first segment of Episode 12, as Jessica and the guys play through the first set of the evening. Set 1 will showcase of all the songs recorded on the first half of the album that you’ve been watching Jessica Leia record during this video series. Enjoy this live performance where Jessica confesses she feels like shit, fires the audience, kicks the band off the stage AND gets naked! (Ok, it’s not as dramatic as it sounds, but all that stuff really does happen).

PART 2:

Join Jessica Leia and her band at the album release party during this PART 2 segment of the FINAL episode of Season 1 on “Me and My Song”! Making an album is challenging enough, but to make a WHOLE video series about making an album is even more of an obstacle course. That’s why Jessica wanted to take a moment to acknowledge some of the people who helped to make all of it possible during this album release party’s AWARDS CEREMONY.
In true, wacky Jessica Leia style, inappropriate remarks will be said in the same breath as touching ones. Soak in the awkward moments while Jessica has feelings and thanks (and embarrasses) those, without whom, the album and the video series would not be possible.

PART 3:

You can’t make a year full of videos and an album full of music, without getting by with a little help from your friends! In this PART 3 of Episode 12 of “Me and My Song”, Jessica Leia takes some time during this album’s ‘Album Release Party’, to extend some special shout outs and thank yous to as many friends, fans and donators as she can possibly remember. Unfortunately, she doesn’t remember to thank them all. But that’s okay because Cowboygirl will come to the rescue and finish off all of the thank yous that Jessica forgets… Well, actually, Cowboygirl forgets some also, but shucks, it’s hard to remember stuff when you’ve got a fever AND there’s soooo many people you want to thank!!

PART 4:

Jessica Leia and the band wrap things up at the Album Release Party with The Final Set of the evening, featuring the last 6 songs of Jessica Leia’s new album: “Me and My Song” … Well, sort of the last 6 songs. You won’t get to hear one of them because of the shape-shifting reptilians. <insert shoulder shrugging emoji here> … But can’t nobody stop us from having fun! Especially when kazoos are involved. That is, kazoos AND alter egos AND a great crowd AND a fantastic band! Enjoy…

PART 5:

Have a super fun time as Jessica Leia and the guys make plans for Season 2! (While they take in to account all the many lessons learned from Season 1 … like how defensive engineers can be). You’ll enjoy playful banter between Jessica and the guys while they discuss some music business, as well as a couple of walks down memory lane AND some guest appearances by ‘The Grammar Police’ and ‘Cowboy Girl’. Don’t forget to grab a gigantic Sharpie so you can take notes and please, by all means, feel free to take your pants off.

Me & My Song SE1 Episode 5

“For My Love”

PART 1:
Some romances start online, but this song comes from a love story born out of tragedy. Jessica tells the tale of her grandparent’s union before she performs the song her grandfather wrote called “For My Love”. It is a love song, of course, written after the passing of his wife, Jessica’s grandmother. It is a story of breaking hearts, healing wounds and the transformation of life’s pain by embracing the beautiful things in this world like dancing, music and love. Enjoy a small piece of American history before hearing a beautiful waltz written by a man who loved a woman for more than half a century.

PART 2:
Join Jessica off stage, but still “Chopping” it up this week with producer Frank Dorriite in studio at Los Medanos College. There is discussion to be had about this month’s song “For My Love” and what all needs to happen to that song before it goes in to another studio for its final recording. A sentimental ballad written by Jessica’s Grandfather, Frank suggests (in a not too delicate manner) that perhaps Jessica is a bit too mellow dramatic and should friggin’ chill out on the vocals when she goes to record the final version of this breathtaking love song! After a few new vocabulary words and the decision to remove any angry chick vibes from the song, Jessica performs the song the same as she did last week, but this time, with some bonus yummy bass lines from her usual side kick Rob McCloskey.

PART 3:
Jessica is heading out to Fantasy Studios and their fancy pants grand piano, so she can record only one basic track for this month’s song, “For My Love”. This time, it’s just her, all alone and without the band. The production decision was made to keep this month’s song simple and sweet: no drums, no guitars, no giraffes… What? And it ends up it does end up simple and sweet after all: Jessica sits down to the piano, messes up a few times and eventually gets the take she wants. But hey, you’ll still want to watch it all go down because there are other fun things happening like wine, birdie noises and tinkling… That’s right, I said tinkling.

PART 4:
As Jessica records the final vocals for this month’s song “For My Love”, she finds herself a bit out of sorts and well, basically ends up being a cry ass. But hey, having feelings is what the arts are all about right?... I mean … right? So how many takes will it take until Jessica is happy with the vocals for this song? Come on in and find out! (CLUE: it’s a lot of ‘em). But don’t worry, even though historical Jessica is having a hard time getting her s&*t together, you and contemporary Jessica can sit down together and have a good laugh over the whole thing… After Jessica cries, that is.

THE SONG “For My Love”
An exquisite love song, “For My Love” is a waltz that uses beautiful chord voicing akin to the music from the classic crooners long ago. Performed Solo by Jessica Leia, this song is a seamless merge of haunting and melodic piano playing, alongside vocals that range from delicate and subdued all the way to robust and theatrical. This is a piece with lyrics that speak of one man’s gentle, yet powerful love and adoration for the woman he spent his life with.

Me & My Song SE1 Episode 9
“Allegiance to Love”

PART 1:
Come along this week on “Me and My Song”, as Jessica Leia takes the stage and discusses love – which is the inspiration behind this month’s/episode’s song: “Allegiance to Love”. Although Jessica discusses some of the logistical background about this song and how it was written not long after 9-11 when she was faced with the reality of her lover being called back in to active duty, she makes the focus of her monologue more on the subject of Love, itself. Jessica discusses the relevance of that force that we call Love, in our daily lives and about the bravery required to allow it in to our hearts and consequently, in to this world. Sharing some of her own personal experience about what love has shown her, Jessica encourages the audience and reminds herself, that Love has Its own intelligence and can guide us through anything, if we simply invite It in.

PART 2:
This week on “Me and My Song”, join Jessica Leia and her sidekick, Rob McCloskey, as they discuss and then do a live performance of this month’s song: “Allegiance to Love”. First Rob will admit to never seeing celery in his life, then there will be a mini music lesson on the topic of Time Signatures and how you can count up to 12 or you can count up to 4 and it still ends up being the same thing. Well… it’s kind of complicated, (or rather “Compound”), but you’ll understand after Jessica explains it all while slappin’ along with the beat! Finally, as they wrap things up with the performance of a touching ballad about the struggles faced by those who have lovers in the military, you’ll be so busy enjoying the song that counting the beats probably won’t even cross your mind.

PART 3:
Jessica Leia and the guys head on over to Fantasy Studios this week on “Me and My Song”, where the place is so big, Jessica can’t even find her way around. Eventually everyone figures out where they are and gets settled with some chocolate and wine, there’s a minor religious experience, and then, the recording begins. Toss in a little headphone yoga, some sporadic screaming and a little bit of angst and you’ve got yourself some magical, behind the scenes moments in a recording studio!

PART 4:
This week on “Me and My Song”, Jessica Leia heads in to the recording studio to record the final vocals for this month’s song: “Allegiance to Love”. Enjoy brief topics such as alter egos and drug use, while also experiencing Jessica anxiously record the vocals and then discuss how much she hates the job she did. Hey, you would be anxious too if everybody was laughing at you when you did YOUR vocal warm ups! But no worries, all’s well that ends well and this installment definitely ends well: with an epic music video, which combines all the footage from the arduous process of recording this song over the previous month. Enjoy!

THE SONG “Allegiance to Love”
A ballad of Billy Joel proportions, “Allegiance to Love” is a song about the emotional struggles often faced by lovers in the military. In this fully produced studio version, Jessica Leia presents her song with conviction as she expresses this struggle admirably in her vocals and pulls off some pretty fancy finger work on the keys. Written in a 12/8 time, this song is drenched with tasty drum fills and well-chosen bass lines. Throw in a little velvety, electric guitar and you’ve got a piece that will move you while you listen to Jessica sing about the angst that comes from knowing your lover may be heading off to war.

Me & My Song SE1 Episode 10

“Sir Duke”

PART 1:
Jessica Leia takes the stage this week on “Me and My Song” as she discusses the safe-haven that music provides for us in order that we might process and allow the complex and varied feelings that we all experience as complex and varied human beings… (You know, so we don’t end up stuffing them deep down inside, only to have them re-appear as a heart attack or hyper tension later on). Enjoy guest appearances from U. Effin Hippie, Mz. Floozy and Señor Sensitivo’s debut appearance on stage, while Jessica Leia pays tribute to the song writing skills and lyrical genius of Stevie Wonder and then presents a solo performance of the song ‘Sir Duke’ for you!

PART 2:
Jessica Leia is shaking things up a bit this week and doing ‘The Chopping Block’ over in the ‘Big Studio’ at Los Medanos College. Discussions will ensue with Producer, Frank Dorritie about whether this month’s song should have clanky guitars, skat or kazoos! (Big decisions, big decisions). Jessica and Frank discuss the reasons behind why Stevie Wonder’s original song, “Sir Duke” had different versions at the time that it was released and what that means for them before they go in studio to record it. (Hint: it has SOMETHING to do with disco) … Jessica won’t be doing the show on a stage this week so there will be no carrot chopping. But you WILL see a cucumber chopping in a cartoon AND get a performance of the song at the end of the video, so enjoy!

PART 3:
It’s back to San Francisco this week on “Me and My Song” as Jessica Leia heads on over to WAM Studios and records the Basic Tracks for this month’s song. It’s a pretty standard recording session with her and the guys; including tasty treats like impromptu Judas Priest performances, cloven hooves and off-screen strip teases. Oh yeah, and there will be some music will be recorded also, (once everyone works through the brain confusion). At the end of the session, we’ll toss in a few kazoos and call it a day in the life of a rock star!

PART 4:
Jessica Leia heads on in to record the final vocals for Sir Duke and because of the shape shifting reptilians at SONY, ends up not being able to use them. I know, right?

Me & My Song SE1 EP1
“Me and My Song”

PART 1:
Jessica breaks it down about why “Me and My Song” exists and literally fights an uphill battle just to express herself! She’s about done it all as a musician and it has left her asking herself some of life’s most difficult and pesky little questions. Questions like: “What am I doing all of this for?” and “What if I die tomorrow?” Now, she’s making her own space inside of cyberspace – a show called “Me and My Song”. Because ultimately, she has concluded that she’d really just like to put a little something in to this world that leaves it a bit better than how she found it. She just wants to leave the gift of … you guessed it: music.
PART 2:
Join Jessica Leia and her sidekick/bass guitar player, Rob McCloskey, on this week’s installment of “Me and My Song” down at the Chopping Block! Enjoy watching as they try to figure out how many chords are in this song before they perform it for you LIVE! Get a mini music education with discussions on how a song is simply made up of the sum of its parts and how ending on the Subdominant makes a song sound like it doesn’t end. WHAT?? Don’t worry, Jessica will explain it all just as soon as she finishes chopping this yam in half! And after all of that, there really isn’t much left to do except treat the audience with a tasty performance of the song. Yummy fun. (Yes, yams WERE harmed in the making of this video).
PART 3:
Jessica and the band head on over to WAM Studios in San Francisco, CA for a recording session where you get to learn what happens during sound check and what you get when you cross a brown chicken with a brown cow. Meanwhile, Jessica learns that “don’t leave home without it” applies more to keyboards, then it does to credit cards, as she struggles to record the piano portion of this season’s title track “Me and My Song” on a keyboard that is not her own. It only takes about a million takes before she decides to record it all over again somewhere else! Pshh … artists. <rolling eyes>
PART 4:
Technical difficulties!! Whenever they happen, it’s usually a good idea to just go and do some jumping jacks… Wha? Well, that’s what Jessica does over at Laughing Tiger Studios, where she is recording the final vocals for this Season’s track title: “Me and My Song”. Joined by producer Frank Dorritie, who informs Jessica of when she is and is not allowed to breathe. There will also be a small staff that Jessica happily bosses around while she takes you behind the scenes to watch how it goes down in a recording studio! Oh yeah, and then there’s that whole awesome music video thing at the end when you get to hear the song that Jessica just recorded!

“Me and My Song” is an honest, vulnerable and determined ballad – a love story between one woman and the music that keeps her alive. In this studio performance, you will hear Jessica Leia’s powerful vocals, backed by a full band. The song has an airy, rock ballad feel, with bright keys and guitars reminiscent of U2. The rich music and vocals paint a rugged yet tender portrait in this most heartfelt theme song.

Me & My Song SE1 EP7
“Don’t Mind Me”

PART 1:
Jessica Leia presents this month’s brand new song: “Don’t Mind Me” … Only problem is, we can’t tell if she’s talking to the audience or dead people. Well, actually, it kind of looks like it might be both. Join her and all the dead people and all the voices in her head as she explains how this song came to be and why it’s embarrassing. Before she takes the stage for a dynamic solo performance of this song, her friends Dee Shrink and D. Shevelled will walk you through the lyrics… but not necessarily the meaning behind those lyrics. (You can only understand that if you listen to this song with your archetypal subconscious mind). What? Oh, just listen and you’ll understand… maybe.

PART 2:
Before Jessica Leia and Rob McCloskey take the stage to perform this month’s song “Don’t Mind Me”, they are going to offer you a mini music education. That way, when you hear all those darn musicians talking about “chords”, you’ll know exactly what they mean! You’ll also learn little bits of trivia like the fact that people need “relief” in the middle of songs and how that sort of thing tickles your emotional body… assuming you’re ticklish. Regardless, bring your “ear-brains” down to “The Chopping Block” for a good listen and a good time while enjoying a LIVE performance in sunny California, after watching some cabbage get killed… Well… , in all fairness, the cabbage was probably already dead.

PART 3:
Join Jessica Leia and the guys as they head on over to the recording studio and record The Basic Tracks for “Don’t Mind Me”. All in all, it’s a pretty easy-going recording session… (so long as you don’t count the serial killers and the need for Xanax). Actually, there are no drugs used in the making of this video and nobody was killed. However, there were plenty of wine drinkers and definitely some dead cameras. But we’ll explain all that after we figure out who’s playing what with which organ.

PART 4:
If you’re going to record some vocals to a song, first you have to take off your boots, then you have to turn on some romantic lighting, then you have to look out for ghosts. Huh? Well, that’s the way Jessica Leia does it this week on “Me and My Song”, as she heads on over to Laughing Tiger Studios in San Rafael, CA and throws down the Final Vocals for this month’s epic rock song: “Don’t Mind Me”.
Things only get a little bit crazy when Jessica has a little bit of crack and way too much of herself in her head, but it all pans out in the end with a happy Internet Redemption and a super groovy rock ‘n roll music video made from all the footage Jessica has collected throughout the month, from the making of this song. Enjoy!

THE SONG “Don’t Mind Me”
An epic rock song with religious harmonies, dirty organ, sassy bass and a mean lead guitar; “Don’t Mind Me” builds anticipation from the start as each instrument enters the song in its own classy way and allow layers upon layers of classic rock sounds to weave in and out of each other craftily. Inspired by Jim Morrison, himself, there’s no doubt the existential lyrics of this song will leave you something to contemplate, as Jessica Leia belts them out with her powerful rock vocals!

Me & My Song SE1 EP8
“Father Time”

PART 1:
Sometimes when you’re hungover, you feel inspired to write a song. That’s what Jessica Leia did anyway! Join her this week in the Raw Reveal of this month’s song, “Father Time,” where she tells you all about when she first wrote this song and then follows up her chat with you, with a chat with Father Time! That’s right, Father Time, himself will be on the show to answer all of the questions you have ever had about him. Jessica will wrap up the show by enthusiastically taking the stage and singing for you the song she named after Father Time, even though she didn’t actually name this song after Father Time … Huh? Well, she’ll explain that in her chat with you. Enjoy!

PART 2:
Join Jessica Leia and Rob McCloskey as they take the stage LIVE at The Chopping Block on this segment of “Me and My Song”. First there will be chopping of a purple carrot, then you will get a mini music education and learn about how can you fish with a ‘hook’ and take a ‘bridge’ to get home. After getting all those smarts, you will see an enthusiastic performance of this month’s song “Father Time”, as Rob rocks the bass and Jessica sings her little heart out! (Hopefully without passing out).

PART 3:
This week on “Me and my Song”, Jessica Leia and her crew of musicians record the Basic Tracks for this month’s song “Father Time”, formerly known as “I Feel Fine” … (Special shout out to Prince, err, the artist formally known as thus). Besides enjoying ice picks in your brain and watching Jessica Leia boss everyone around in this week’s installment of the show, you will also get a chance to watch the gang try NOT to [email protected]$k up, as they feel pressure THE moment that record button gets hit! How ‘bout them apples?

PART 4:
Come on along behind the scenes while Jessica Leia records the final vocals for this month’s song: “Father Time”! There will be some serious failure to communicate and plenty of “ifs” “ands” and “buts” as Jessica works to record her vocals with producer Frank Dorritie and tries to get shut up by her cam guy! However, when all is sang and done, it all seems almost tooooo easy. Enjoy a final music video at the end of the session, where Jessica Leia puts together all the footage compiled from the previous month of recording the process of making “Father Time,” available for you to download!

THE SONG “Father Time”
“Father Time” sings out something like an old Jim Croce song, as Jessica Leia picks up her acoustic guitar and sings about the passage of time and how it makes her feel just fine. With an upbeat tempo strummed on 6 strings, epic bass, playful drums and energizing lead guitar licks, Jessica and the band enthusiastically perform this song! Toss in Jessica’s knock ‘em out vocals and you’ll be left feeling fully energized by this happy tune and happy to be shaking hands with “Father Time”!

Me & My Song SE1 Episode 6
“Out”

PART 1:
Jessica Leia takes the stage this week in the Raw Reveal of this month’s song: “Out” … She shares her own coming out story (every sexual miscreant has one) and it is chalk full of dead puppies and drive-by dyke-ings! She shares a touching revelation that her mother once had, which assured Jessica she was always welcome at home - no matter who she has sex with … Then again, the lyrics of the song Jessica performs after this very transparent monologue, suggest that perhaps she has a history of bringing home questionable partners. So we’ll just to leave it up to her Mama to decide while we enjoy the show!

PART 2:
Things get juicy, juicy this week at the Chopping Block, not only because Jessica Leia is performing this month’s song live with Rob McCloskey using some juicy bass guitar, but because she is also chopping a big, fat, giant orange that well, smells very orange-y. Before their groovy performance Jessica and Rob have a colorful conversation full of fun and unexpected music vocabulary words, and well, some other maybe might be made up vocabulary words. But hey, we’re not trying to be musical rocket scientists here! As Jessica points out, this is all for funsies.

PART 3:
Hey everyone! Today, Jessica Leia and the guys head over to Dean K Productions to record the basic tracks for this month’s song “Out”. Things don’t go so smoothly at first… or at all, really. But with the assistance of a click track that ice picks everyone’s brains and a little more cowbell, they eventually muddle their way through to a flawless track that incites spontaneous dancing and duck lips… Oh, my – it looks like duck lips are happening.

PART 4:
Jessica Leia heads on over to Dean K Productions again this week. But this time, to record the final vocals for this month’s song: “Out”. It’s your standard recording session that includes belching, helicopters, and barking dogs. You know, all kinds of sound effects. And after you get to watch Jessica slapping herself around a little bit, and some excellent footage of Engineer, Dean Kattari’s chair, you also get to watch a most excellent music video that showcases the song Jessica just recorded, using all the footage she has collected over the previous month gettin’ ‘er done!

THE SONG “Out”
Jessica Leia performs this final studio version of her song “Out” this time, with the band. “Out” has lyrics that touch on a number of sexual taboos. With playful rhythms and tasty chord progressions, the song combines a bit of a classic rock feel on top of a modern garage rock, new wave vibe.

PART 1:
Heartfelt, yet humorous, Jessica openly discusses the inspiration behind the writing of this song, “Shame on You Man”. Before an intense performance of the song, itself, Jessica speaks on its inception. Touching on the subject of how she is a seeker, she reveals that the piece came to be during the uncovering of some very painful truths about the church in which she was raised. Discussing the sanctioned rape and murder of women throughout the ages by “The Church,” Jessica references her own negative experiences with men and makes a genuine plea to the masculine men and women of the world to not channel the “monster”, but rather to embrace their masculinity and to use the love and the strength of that masculinity to love and to embrace the feminine.

PART 2:
Jessica and her faithful sidekick / bass guitar player and music arranger, Rob McCloskey take the stage again - this time to perform “Shame on You Man” LIVE, at the Chopping Block. Yes – things will get chopped. You will also get a chance to enjoy Rob and Jessica discussing what it means to have an accent in music and how a simple change in emphasis, in any given song, can change the entire mood. Enjoy this week’s episode of “Me and My Song” as all “basses” are covered! I mean, what better thing to do on a Sunday afternoon than to sing LIVE, have discussions on cool music tricks, and chop up wilted chard that was dying in Jessica’s fridge?

PART 3:
Although surrounded by men and recording a song that quite clearly scolds them, Jessica is not intimidated, but rather, simply happy that a studio full of men smells so good. She and some bandmates are heading on over to Expression College this week to record some basic instrumental tracks for this month’s song “Shame on You Man”. After eventually making sure that they are all playing the SAME song, the record button gets hit and the fun begins! The gang is recording with analogue tape this time, so how many takes can be taken is limited! After a couple takes land in the trash, a quick rehearsal ensues in studio, wherein Jessica reminds us that rehearsal during recording time is usually not the best way to go. But the session ultimately ends with a round of applause for everyone as the musical groundwork for “Shame on You Man” is set and ready for Jessica to add her vocals to next week in Part 4…

PART 4:
Jessica is off and running to record the final vocals for the PART 4 conclusion of this month’s song “Shame on You Man”! Jessica is reminded not to be a loud mouth when she sings her vocals, and is assured by her producer and engineer that if loud mouthing should happen, her vocals will promptly be hit with a hammer… whatever that means. Ultimately, all parties remain calm during this recording session and nobody ends up hitting anything. But throughout the process, there does end up being some serious discussion about whether or not this song should, in fact, contain a mother [email protected]#*er.

THE SONG “Shame on You Man”
A pop rock song that could seem like an angry one if it weren’t so touching; “Shame on You Man” reflects upon the atrocities committed against women throughout history. The poetry of the lyrics, met with the ferocity of the keys, makes for a Tori Amos meets Ani DiFranco, meets Billy Joel kind of feel. A call for the masculine people of the world to embrace the feminine, for the beautiful and powerful force that she is. In this studio recording of the song, Jessica Leia sings with guts and jams it out on piano while her band rocks it out with a cool walkin’ bass and grungy electric guitar behind her!

Me & My Song SE1 EP 3
“Now’s the Time”

PART 1:

Join Jessica Leia (and all of the voices in her head), as she prances around (and sometimes falls) on stage. She will also be openly discussing her addiction to her own misery and how clear, confident decision-making leads to magic in the Universe. That, of course, won’t happen until she first runs around like a chicken with her head cut off – literally – and gets chewed out by ‘OMG Girl’ for talking about moths instead of introducing the song! Though this month’s song, “Now’s the Time,” is all about doing it now, Jessica will actually present you with a video shoot of this song she once performed in the past, combined with cameos of a performance from the future, that feature Grace. “Who’s Grace,” you say? Oh, that’s just Jessica with no pants on.

PART 2:

Yes, Tarzan was harmed in the making of this film. Other than that, Jessica Leia’s just on stage doin’ her thang with her side kick / bass guitar player, Rob McCloskey down at “The Chopping Block”! They’re gonna ham it up a bit (after chopping up some squash) and chat about how songs with lots of stuff in them, end up being the ones you screw up most in live performances. Plus, you’ll learn a few new music vocabulary words – including one word that’s so old, it’s even older than Rob McCloskey, himself! After all of that, Jessica and Rob will perform the song they just explained to you – promptly illustrating how to screw up on songs with lots of stuff in them! Don’t worry, they unscrew things pretty quickly and ultimately offer you a yummy performance of this month’s song: “Now’s the Time”.

PART 3:

Join Jessica Leia and the band as they head on down to Laughing (Ha Ha!) Tiger (Grooowl!) Studios. It’s all about getting the instrument tracks recorded this week, so that next week, Jessica can record the final vocals on this song “Now’s the Time”. There will be some vocals this week, of course. Vocals that recordin’ folk like to call, “scratch vocals”. But sometimes Jessica’s vocals do more than just scratch! In fact, this session, they’re more than likely to break the microphone! … For realsies. It’s one giggle after another as everyone - from the engineer to the cameraman - try to figure out what the heck is going on and how this song is supposed to go!

PART 4:

Jessica is about to throw down some killer vocals in the PART 4, grand finale of Episode 3: “Now’s the Time”… She’s headin’ on over to San Raphael, CA to plop herself in front of a microphone and get ‘er done. First, of course, she will need to take her bra off. Hey, how are you supposed to relax and sing your little heart out if you don’t feel right at home? Although she does end up getting in to a little bit of trouble from Producer, Frank Dorritie, that’s just because she keeps not making her pronouns match. Toss in a little debate about who the greatest lyricist of all time is as well as some vocal warm ups and BAM: you’ve got a rip roarin’ ride of a recording session!

PART 5:

Because “Me and My Song is a show based on a 4 PART structure, a fifth week in any given month means a BONUS SUNDAY! On this Bonus Sunday, Jessica takes the stage to give a sort of Raw Reveal of a song she previously revealed to the internet called, “My Way”. Before she presents to you the studio version of this high energy rocker, (alongside a slideshow of she and her band mates performing it in many different venues), she will give an impassioned speech, (or go on a tangent, depending on how you look at it), about some of the realizations she has had over the years working in the music biz and really, just in life in general. Ultimately, she is going to tell you in her own way why - although it may not be easy, smart, or convenient - she’s just gonna go ahead and do things, well, her way.

Me & My Song SE1 Episode 2
“Come Alive”

PART 1:
Join Jessica Leia as she performs her song “Come Alive,” in its most raw form … err, its sort of most raw form. Don’t worry, she’ll explain all that whilst also telling you about the birds and the bees and why this song was born! (Don’t worry, it’s rated PG). It’s an all-star cast in PART 1 of this episode, so join Cowboy Girl, Debbie Downer and others as they take the stage alongside Jessica Leia to animate the stories and the reasons behind a song that she will sing with multiple selves. (She may have a condition). Please enjoy the music - as well as kisses from aliens and educated fleas - while Jessica takes you on this tilt-a-whirl of a ride!

PART 2:
Jessica Leia and her sidekick/bass guitar player, Rob McCloskey, take the stage to perform the song “Come Alive” ... well … live! But before they rock and roll for you, enjoy getting a mini music lesson while you learn that in any given song, the dominant is as far away from the galactic center as it can possibly get. No, really… it is. Naturally, Jessica will start the conversation off by chopping a giant, mutant zucchini. And of course, she will end the conversation by chopping something out of the song that ensures it will never have babies … “The Chopping Block” can be a dangerous place!

PART 3:
Jessica Leia and the band head on over to Dean K Productions in Oakland, CA! … Or is it Dean K Studios? Or is it Dean K Productions? Or is it Dean K Studios? Well, Jessica doesn’t really know where she is. But wherever the heck it’s all happening, there is a whole lot of love and plenty of snarky-ness to go around while she and the guys record the basic instrumental tracks for “Come Alive”. Enjoy taking a peek behind the scenes as real-life, professional musicians continually bicker about who’s right about what and take 500 gabillion takes before finally capturing the perfect one!

PART 4:
Ms. Jessica Leia hangs out over at Dean K productions again this week. But this time, it’s in the vocal booth! Watch (and listen) while Jessica records the final vocals for this month’s song, “Come Alive”. She only acts like a diva a couple of times before confessing to autotuning all of her vocals. What?? Just kidding… sort of. PLUS, you get to find out what comping is! Not camping – comping. (Don’t worry, it’s not as technical as it sounds). And of course, once everything is said and done… err, sang and done, Jessica will present to you, an amazing rock star video, showcasing the final version of “Come Alive” and Jessica in fish nets (not that that’s anything new).

THE SONG
If you have too much going on in your life, you are going to feel this month’s song: “Come Alive” … You’re going to feel it regardless, as Jessica Leia sings her heart out in this upbeat tune! With a 1960’s pop meets R&B kind of feel, this anthem of a song tells the tale of a busy-ness we all know so well and reminds us to just “leave the messes”. Which is ironic, of course, because this is EXACTLY the kind of song you want to dance and sing to while you’re cleaning the house on Sunday!
