HEAVY METAL MECHANIC ANNO 1
I breath live and fix Heavy Metal!
This is the same Dac Dynasty that most of you know, but with some added flair.
A few lessons learned over the years of making these episodes, so hopefully, it will all get better each episode, each new season.
So...Grrrrroooooooaaaaaahhhhh!
People ask if there is a god. Oh yeah, its one of those episodes!
Welcome to my heaven, and my hell, also known as my garage. It was a lot of work, blood sweat and not tears, getting this done.
Also, I use eco-friendly methods, such as reusing refrigerator doors and sheet metal. I reuse a pallet and make a work table, and get determined. Many wont like this, but I am now, doing this for….grrrrr
DAC POWER!
So sharpen your axes, don your leather, because its time to get heavy…heavy metal!

Theres two kinds of ways a person can think. One, thinking as the soldier, loyal, you fight, and never give up. The other way, is when you are the general, and you give the orders.
Today I go to the front line on the battle field, and take charge! Everything is at stake. How am I going to move the battle space in my favor?
Winterizing the cars, by charging the batteries, covering them, vacuuming the leaves off. But you have to be flexible, because no plan survives the battle field.
Heavy metal guides me, as a soldier, and as a general!
I send out my heavy artillery. The Shov Vac 16 gallon, the Schumacher battery charger, and Operation Flip the Bus is under way…
Will I succeed? Will the battle result in defeat or VICTORY?
Only if you enlist, and subscribe, can we ensure we defeat the evil scourge of the leaves, and attain success in maintenance!

This is satire and comedy. Its 2020, so it must be said…don’t eat cutting discs!
Safety First! Never sleep under a bus! (There’s no privacy! Lol).
I get help tying my hair in a new mechanics hair do! Its bleeding edge of R&D. And off to work under the bus! I’m trying to find the air leak, and my first thought is from the towing crew that made a failed attempt. So, tighten things up, start Olivia up and see if she holds air.
I do suspect the Romanian engineered external air fitting, but nope. Its not there! I never got around to putting the Bosch conversion fittings, from metric to NPT.
Crawling under a Romanian bus while its running…safety first! We do have the parking break on.
Ignore the thing about Bulgarians (cool guys!)
After hearing the air leaking, I go under the bus again for further inspecting! Its at the rear wheels, so I crawl and its not pleasant. The biggest issue is finding which are the active air lines, and which were literally just left there. This is gonna be fun…
Also, Olivia is leaking transmission fluid. Gravy…
At least I got the tape out of my hair! I say its not a good idea but I didn’t get scalped! I may use it in the future.

Before I can find the air leak, I have to be able to pressurize the air system without starting the bus. So, will the air regulator be able to take an NPT adapter? Or do I have to take more drastic steps?
Also, be careful with opening panels, bay doors and skirt doors.
Once I find the air pressure regulator, it becomes obvious I have to remove it, and that is a pain in itself. Right next to the regulator is the air antifreeze pump, which is beyond dirty and gross. It has to come off for a good cleaning.
It will be easier to see where I can add air in the bus while these parts are removed. Plus did I mention cleaning them?
So, I try removing the fittings, one by one, and they aint budging! So its up to the penetrating oil to help out. Just be careful as there could usually be a lot of air pressure in the system.
Watch to see just how bad “air” can look. Talk about chunky!
While I work on the regulator, its important to seal off the rest of the air system so moisture doesn’t go inside! But no victory comes without a cost…as I tear off a piece of rusted out sheet metal, leaving a giant hole! Oh, wow!

Tool haul and unboxing!
I also figured you might like seeing my parts storage. I label, inventory and tag all of my car parts. I do use aviation serviceability tag standards as the baseline.
People have old coats in their basements, I have windshields and car doors!
Onto the unboxing! Its like presents!
Knipex Cobra water pump pliers 87-01-125, the baby pliers. I am a bit concerned over some defects in the casting and coatings. It’s the kind of thing that makes you doubt their authenticity, especially as Amazon has a big problem with forged goods.
Knipex are from Wuppertal Germany, and do have a good reputation.
So, the next one is the larger 12 inch Cobra pliers 87-01-300. It also has some casting imperfections, and if not for the Amazon knock off problem, they would be fine. Are they the real deal or is it a scam?
I also got some Vampire Tools VamPliers VT-011 Super Combo Scissors. These are incredibly sharp. They can easily cut a finger off if you’re not careful. They last a long time too, have serrated teeth, and promise to cut just about anything.
VamPliers, not Van pliers, also made in Japan, model VT-001-8 are super plients, meant to remove damage nuts and bolts. They are very nicely made, nicely machined and the handles feel very good. Its my new favorite tool.
They have teeth going in multiple directions meant to grab remove stripped nuts.
Back to Knipex with their parallel jaw pliers model 86-03-300. They have a huge mouth, locking function and lots of other things Im still discovering.
Unfortunately, these show the biggest defects in the casting, as well as some problems with clumping of the metal. I may end up returning these to Amazon. I really needed these, and it would be a shame if I simply cannot get them.
I would still recommend these, but get them from a tool truck if you can. Amazon simply is not reliable enough nor trustworthy enough.
Vampliers, not Van pliers, not vampires, are the perfect Halloween trick or treat gift! (hint hint!)
We are also very fortunate to get some backing, but a new start-up company. Thank you Directly25 LLC, the new owners of the DAC Dynasty IP!

We can move on to the next part. The air pressure regulator has to come apart.
Step one, using pliers...since I dont have a metric that big. But...it is not moving. At all.
Heavy corrosion is a big problem with fittings, so you need to use a vise if you can. But you have to be careful how you grab them so you dont damage the part you're working on.
It comes down to cutting, in a dangerous way as its a tight constricted location.
And then, the big test. The Milwaukee M18 2767 brushless impact running on an 8Ah battery.
And it makes quick work, even though he fittings were sealed with wool. Yes, wool inside the threads.

Whats more fitting than playing with Vampire Tools Vampliers on Halloween. No, not van pliers. VamPliers! Of course we play with the Knipex pliers too. Nipex? No, Knipex. It’s the weirdly spelled tool episode?
So, new tools mean new cutouts in the foam, which is a perfect opportunity to test out the Vamplier VT-011 shop scissors. Not pretty but that’s just my horrible hand! That scary trend goes on with me almost taking out my eyes with British cutting implements!
So, go trick or treat, and wear a mask (mwahahaaa)
Of course, its not Dac Dynasty until I go a bit nutty. Giraffes. Yes. Giraffes are involved.
Onto testing out the Vampliers VT-011 on hard stainless steel. And guess how they did? (nope!). They did very well on fabric and foam though. But testing goes on with my favorite traditional pliers, the Vampliers VT-001-8, and they are great. There is no slipping while I braid some of the hardest safety wire known to man! But, not tough enough for the Vampliers. They snap it like butter.
So enjoy, and let me know. What do you think of the setup? Do you improvise like this too? Comment! And if you havent, subscribe to the weirdest coolest auto channel around!

How to change a battery…with love.
It’s a comedy skit, but with actual good tips.
So, remove the battery, and charge it over the winter! At the very least disconnect the negative ground if the car will sit over the winter.
Use an old school charger (not a smart charger) as they will charge very low and dead batteries!
Don’t leave batteries unattended while charging though. You want to be there in case they overheat, catch fire and so on. I will recondition this battery later on…without silly gimmicks. Just back to basics!

How do you make a 200 dollar tool for 10 bucks? It’s a mystery that should be helpful. (the price might have gone up!)
https://amzn.to/3kppmWT
While building this tool, I use the Knipex cobra, and they prove to be very good.
I also use the Milwaukee 2504 M-12 Fuel hand drill, with the 2Ah battery. It’s a good little drill, but keep in mind, it is not a beefy drill, but its small size and lightweight make it very good for oddball jobs.
The Vampliers VT-011 worked great on the plastic PET bottle. Yes, this project involves a PET bottle, and drilling holes in it.
This is a great little tool!

I decided it was time to get some good thread gauges.
Enter the Mitutoyo SAE and metric thread gauges. The packaging might be awkward but the tools are excellent. The Mitutoyo 950-253 is a 51 leaf thread gauge, going from 4 to 84 threads per inch. It should cover pretty much any kind of bolt you encounter in a car or truck.
The Mitutoyo 188-153 is the metric thread pitch gauge. While it has fewer leaves, only 28, its covers most all of the metric sizes used in automotive applications.
Both have steel screws so you can replace a single leaf or change the order if you need to. Each leaf is also stampled so none of that laser etching that fades away, leaving you wondering what TPI you have!
Can you measure threads? Sure, but sometimes, the eyes fail, threads get damaged and the best way to get the thread count on a bolt or screw is to use a thread gauge.
The Mitutoyos are built to last, made from stainless steel, and oddly enough they are Made in USA. Actually this is one of the reasons they don’t look as polished (literally!) as the Mitutoyos made in Japan.

When doing work on floor boards, you have to make sure no water can get into the cabin! This goes doubly if the car will be outside at any point.
First, identify the rust holes. Then mark them with a marker or welder’s chalk. And then get to cutting!
This is also a review on the Dremel 4000, and how poor the cutting discs are, that eat up fast or disintegrate. The quality is beyond poor, rendering it borderline useless to anyone that needs to get any work done.
Corners are the biggest issue when cutting, and while the angle grinder does a great job, it has trouble fitting in corners.
Keep in mind to always put the angle grinder on for safety.
I still have to try with the Dremel though, but it continuously fails, discs biting the dust over and over, twenty in total!
In the end, if comes down to using a hammer and chisel, and my new favorite, the Vampliers extractor pliers!
Just keep in mind, that you should always know what is underneath the cutting area. Inspect as best you can, crawl under the car, get a camera under, do what you can! You don’t want to cut the frame or chassis. Also, you can better see the rust holes from below as light reveals them.
Did I mention the Vampliers? They are outstanding at doing their job, as well as other jobs they werent meant for.
You should try to remove rusted sheetmetal in one piece, so you can trace the outline onto the new metal, but in many cases the metal may be too rusted, or simple impossible. Here, the sheet metal is welded from below, and thus cannot come out in one piece. Yes, its more work, but such is life.
As you remove pieces, stop and inspect where any holes are, where water can come in. While you do this, revise your plan. Think more than just one step ahead.
Going back to cutting, you can use metal fatigue to tear pieces off, jerking in back and forth with break each piece off, and having a good set of pliers makes this part a lot easier.
Tin snips are also good, but I found they don’t do well at cutting in weird corners, but they can cut tabs that can be broken off with the pliers.

(((EDIT: This is one of my best, over-engineered diy tools. It was meant to be a simple, durable, versatile and highly mobile sand blasting and chemical cleaning cabinet. If you have any ideas on how to make it better...shut up! I'm kidding. I'd love to hear them, and implement them. Likewise, feel free to use this design yourself, either the exact same way or bits and pieces.
We need to learn how to be both self reliant and ingenious, as well as open to our community, helping out with ideas and so on. So back to the regular description)))
There are three qualities any project can have, good, fast, or cheap, but you can only pick two of those at a time.
I made my own home-made sand blasting cabinet, called the tactical sanding cabinet. It is light, durable, and multi-capable. It can be used to wash parts, sand blast them while being environmentally safe

More disasters. Water heater (boiler) blew up and flooded my basement. So..while I go into despair over how to pay for all this, here are the steps you should immediately once you find your boiler leaking.
It will or should minimized the damage, and once you finish this, move your stuff up and away from any water…I love my life!

What better time to review tools that burn that during a blizzard? So, I got the cheapest propane heater, the Duraheat TT-15S. It mounts directly to a standard 20lbs propane tank (like the one most of you have for the barbeque).
The more important tool, is the Bernz-O-Matic TS8000 propylene torch, with push button ignition and variable flow. Its cast aluminum with brass tubing, and is made in the US (surprisingly). This torch spreads out the heat in such a way as to heat up a larger section as opposed to the pencil flame torch that you saw me use with propane a few episodes ago.
So, I set out on fabricating a patch, and while it’s fairly simple, one corner is rather complex in shape, which requires heating. 1mm and thicker cannot be easily bent cold, so the torch does great, as it saves time, heating things up much faster. Sure it’s not acetylene and oxygen, but it’s the next best thing (unless you got some old MAP gas lying around lol)

An attempt was made to weld. The idea was to do a simple but weld of two pipes. Yes, they were small diameter and thinner than I realized, and with large 22mm hex heads in the way, but no excuses.
I’m not happy with the result, but its better than nothing, and the moral of the story is to never give up. I pushed, and learned, and the weld hopefully will hold even if its not pretty.

I take on welding, and while I'm just starting, I do know how to learn, and the biggest hurdle is just getting into it. Start small and work your way up. I do talk about a few tricks I have already learned (but am far from mastering).
However this episode was more difficult for me, as I have a few other setbacks with fabricating patchwork for the Ranchero bed. 2mm thick sheetmetal is a pain in the but to shape and form, so today, damn near nothing worked and that's why its best to sometimes just...walk away.
Leave it for another day.

I figured Id work in the garage even during a blizzard. I will review some heating tools, but before that, I wanted to check how much snow we got, and how bad the blizzard is. Not bad, but definitely a serious snow fall. Its fun!

Three funny (and one maybe useful?) tips on how to handle snow if youre really lazy (or if your back hurts too much!)
Im actually really sick, and wanted to record something else, and wasnt going to use this footage, beyond just for my own family videos kinda thing...I thought the snow on the roof was cool.
I tried...I really did try to make this funny....I just want to get back on my feet, stop with the soup and eat some red meat and get back to banging out some HEAVY METAL!
So yeah. I can do the homesteading thing. Welcome winter...have some cold. Remember, protect your gutters from snow drifts

A few episodes I built the Tactical Sanding Cabinet, and the results were…moderate. This time, I use some REAL sand blasting medium, coal byproducts (20/40 grit) and it works. Boy, does it ever!
Before and after shots of the rusted, greasy, gross, wool covered air fitting. And it comes out to clean bare metal. Heavy metal!
I also review a mini Shop-vac to recover any spilt sanding material, and it does the job great!

I tried to use the Duraheat TT-15S propane heater, as I have in a past episode, but on its second use, it decided to fail. And it nearly failed catastrophically. You don’t mess around with compressed propane.
This thing will KILL! It is dangerous, so here I am, to show you the symptoms. If it makes this sound, or if you don’t see a flame around the burner, then shut off the propane tank immediately and stop using it.
I can’t say if this is a design defect or a manufacturing defect. As of now, Amazon is investigating (whatever that means), but while editing the video they did issue a full refund, as well as a 15 buck gift card. Sure, I almost die, if not for paying attention, and they give you 15 bucks.
I don’t want the money. I want heat! But I guess I have to freeze!!!

This series of videos is one that cost me a lot. Its revolving around the alcohol antifreeze pump for the air system.

FTC legaleese: I do get paid a small comission for the amazon link above. I don't post links to crappy items though. These are links to items and tools I bought with my own money, and if you want to help me out, you can order from those links, and I get whatever Amazon throws me way. Thanks!

Before I assemble the alcohol pump, I decide to give it a nice polish. I get the plastic cup looking almost new, and the hard pitted steel pump body all sparkling! What to see what I use, and the how.
