Original 6-part UK TV series broadcast live by the BBC in 1958:
During excavation work at a building site in Hobbs Lane, London, workmen discover a skull and other fossilised bones. But are they really remains from a five million-year-old skeleton as claimed by Dr Roney, or something altogether more sinister? Meanwhile, Professor Quatermass, head of The Rocket Group, is resisting government plans to install missiles on the Moon, in a menacing project known as the Dead Man’s Deterrent.

Quatermass II comprises of six half-hour episodes, transmitted live from Studio G at the BBC's Lime Grove Studios in London and were broadcast every Saturday night at 8 p.m. from 22 October to 26 November 1955
The serial sees Professor Bernard Quatermass of the British Experimental Rocket Group being asked to examine strange meteorite showers. His investigations lead to his uncovering a conspiracy involving alien infiltration at the highest levels of the British government. As even some of Quatermass's closest colleagues fall victim to the alien influence, he is forced to use his own unsafe rocket prototype, which recently caused a nuclear disaster at an Australian testing range, to prevent the aliens from taking over mankind.

An eccentric yet compassionate extraterrestrial Time Lord zips through time and space to solve problems and battle injustice across the universe, traveling via the TARDIS (Time and Relative Dimensions in Space), which is his old and occasionally unreliable spaceship that resembles a blue police phone box (but changes its appearance depending on its surroundings) and is much, much larger inside than outside.

After buying it for a good price, a couple and their young daughter move into a house that was the scene of a macabre murder. A series of terrifying events eventually force them to flee for their lives, but all is not as it seems.

An ancient African idol, possessed by the spirit of an evil sorcerer, seems to take on a life of its own.

An elderly pet shop owner, who is secretly a former Nazi concentration camp guard, is intent on continuing experiments on human victims. His plan is to create prisons with no bars, for which he captures a former prison inmate and his wife.

A husband and wife head off on holiday to the West Country, but get stranded. They find sanctuary at a house in the woods, where a woman (Diana Dors) cares for a number of children; the husband believes these to be werewolves. After an accident he wakes in a hospital, to be told the werewolf children were all a dream. However, his now-pregnant wife has changed, developing a taste for raw steak, among other things.

A young woman, convinced she possesses the reincarnated spirit of a murderess, walks the night seeking out new victims to fill an ancient prophecy for death. Features Pierce Brosnan in one of his early screen roles.

Human sacrifice as part of an ancient rite is the unexpected consequence when an antiques dealer unwittingly buys a mirror with mysterious evil powers.

A psychologically fragile woman accidentally kills an intruder who is about to hurt her. Her husband buries the body in the woods, but she continues to see the man in various places; this leads her to seek help from a psychic. Worse is to follow as she becomes the victim of a macabre plot.

The Professor's walk takes him along the beach and onto a hill overlooking the sea, where he comes upon a bedraggled graveyard. Moving in for a closer look at the most distant of the graves, which stands at the cliff edge and has been partly worn away, he spies a small bone object. He pockets it and makes his way back. As he makes his way back along the beach, he sees a figure behind him, silhouetted against the falling sun...

Dr Haynes is a bewhiskered clergyman itching to take over from Archdeacon Pulteney, the elderly incumbent of Barchester Cathedral in rural England. There is a problem, though: Haynes is an ambitious young fellow, and Pulteney isn’t outgoing quite quickly enough for his liking. Tiring of the nonagenarian’s longevity, Haynes decides to engineer a nasty stairway accident in order to instigate the aged man’s swift passage to the other side. Soon afterwards, the spectre of a black cat appears, bringing with it into Dr. Haynes’s living quarters all manner of disembodied voices and laughter, inexplicable nocturnal thumping and movement, and a hooded figure that shadows him during his daily business.

The story concerns a young antiquary and archaeologist named Paxton. While on vacation on the south-east coast of England, Paxton hears the legend of the three holy crowns. According to the legend, England was kept safe from being invaded when three crowns were buried long ago at sites near the coast. One of the crowns was later dug up, one is now beneath the sea but one still remains buried in the earth and keeps England safe from invasion.

A young orphan, Stephen, is sent to go and live with his strange, much older cousin at his remote country house. Once there, Stephen experiences terrible dreams in which he sees a young girl and boy who are missing their hearts!!!...

In this spooky story, a British antiquary named Somerton follows a coded message, hidden in a stained glass window, which leads him to a location in Germany where a large amount of gold is hidden. When he takes the treasure, Somerton finds that a ghost will not allow him to have any rest until the gold is put back in its original hiding place...

This ghostly story takes place in the late 17th century and the mid 18th century. Its main characters are a powerful landowner named Sir Matthew Fell and his grandson Sir Richard Fell. In the year 1690, a woman known as Mrs. Mothersole is found guilty of being a witch and condemned to death, largely on the strength of testimony given by Sir Matthew Fell. Shortly afterwards, Sir Matthew dies in mysterious and horrific circumstances. Some fifty years later, Sir Richard inherits his grandfather's former home. He finds that an ash tree in the grounds of the house is causing him problems.

A traveler (Bernard Lloyd) sees a railway signalman (Denholm Elliott) in a lonely location. The signal box is situated between two steep sided hills close to the entrance to a tunnel. The traveler, shielding his eyes from the glare of the sun with one arm, waves to the signalman and cries out "Hallo, Below There". But he is puzzled when the railway worker not only does not reply to him but actually seems to be afraid of him. When the traveler reassures him that there is nothing to fear about him, the signalman welcomes the stranger into his signal box and begins to tell him a remarkable story...

A woman named Katherine heads off to her country cottage with her teenage daughter. Some workmen who have been working in their garden have unearthed a large Bronze Age menhir standing stone and they use an excavator to lift it up slightly. That’s when everything starts to go pear-shaped and Katherine starts bleeding, despite not having a wound anywhere on her body...

Residents at a health spa begin to suspect that a strange flower growing in an old ice house in the grounds may be the cause of a series of misfortunes.
