Blondes Brunettes and Reds- Ales of various colors and styles
Blondes,Browns, Reds, Blacks,Scotches and assorted other ales
Another brew from Sleepy Dog brewing out of Tempe Az. I do like that they are active in the rescue community and donate to help save Mans Best Friends.
This is another sweet dessert beer altho this one tastes almost exactly like Blueberry pie. If this was the intent it's genius but I find it too sweet for me. A season of sweet candy brews this year, not really my thing. The ABV is 4.9, less than 10 IBUs as expected for a wheat and the SRM of 10.
If they have a dessert beer catagory this one should be in there.
Thx for stopping by folks. Have a good weekend,
E.

This is a really nice Amber, slightly sweet but not malty. She has a hint of fruit on the nose that doesn't translate to the tongue.
The initial hit is smooth, fast thru the middle without any complexities and finishes up clean and dry. This is a well crafted brew.
The ABV is 4.9, the IBUs are 10 and I'd guess the SRM to be a 20 with its nice rich copper color. Just a nice all around Amber.

This is a really nice crisp, dry and lightly fruited brew. Exactly what I love about the summertime hot weather beers. She comes in on the nose with lightly peach and sharp aroma. Initial hit is tart filling into the medium fast full middle w the fruit flavors and cleaning up nice and dry on the back. Absolutely delicious and crushable, this is the perfect summer time refreshment in an adult beverage.
ABV 4.1, IBUs 0 and the SRM is listed as Honey I'd call it a 12.
A verified Non GMO product for a change. Maybe the sheeple are waking up to clean food now .

*sorry folks, this should be a blooper reel. It was hot and I banged out a couple before the shoot. Mea Culpa
Samuel Adams Porch Rocker is their take on the radler, a style referring to the brew cyclists would consume. Usually a nice lager cut w a fruit soda or lemonade. This particular one is very heavy on the lemon so fore warned is fore armed as it were.
The nose is lemony and pleasantly so. The initial hit is lemony and tart with a super fast middle and the back end isn't particularly clean. My guess would be the lemon oil coating the palate in much the same way too much hop oil makes for a dirty finish.
This isn't a horrible brew but it is too overly lemony for my tastes.

A surprisinly drinkable brew. While the nose is sickeningly sweet and leads to the belief that it'll be a syrupy beer it is instead a very well crafted ale. Balanced and smooth, I could knock these back NQA. Running 5.2 ABV 15 IBU and I'd say a 12 SRm, The OG/ degrees Plato for the beer geeks is listed as 1.048.
She hits nice and smooth up front w a hint of sweetness , super fast thru the middle , clean and dry on the back end. Dilly Dilly we have a winner folks.

Another one from one of the local breweries, San Tan Hefeweizen has a nice nose, rich and beery with a citrus aroma. The initial hit is interesting, thin on the tongue with light citrus .She burns fast thru the middle while building the flavor profile. Not very citrusy and I didn't get the banana and cloves. Finally she is dry and dirty on the finish. Not a bad beer, I could drink these.
ABV is 5.0 IBUs are 15 which is about top end for a hefe and the SRM is literally the color of OJ so lets say 20.

Normally I like the stuff they put out there. Back when they had a tap house up in Phoenix,( early 90's when the brew revolution was in it's infancy here) I used to bend the elbow there with gusto. That being said I was really looking forward to this beer. It is 2 of my favorite styles, berliner weiss and fruited sour. Sadly this one disappoints since it is way past my tolerance for sour. Nice nose heavier on the fruit than the sour but once it hits the palate she inverts hard and fast. Sour up front she builds to an even more sour middle, albeit a very fast burn thru there and then ends clean and dry. It's not a brew for me but if youre into very sour things this might be the brew for you.
There is no information on the net and the can lists the ABV as 5.0, sub 10 would be my guess for IBUs and the SRM is an easy 20 with its orange juice like appearance. I would recommend drinking this beer as cold as possible , like 36F to abate some of that tartness.

This brew from Flying Fish was a swing and a miss for me. Billed as a session sour ale brewed with Strawberry and Lime to evoke hints of salt water taffy. They weren't lying, this is a candy sweet sour. They brew in New jersey so this must be their homage to the Atlantic City boardwalk of old.
The ABV is 4.3 with 8 IBUs and the SRM is best guess an 8 with the nice golden hue. I just couldn't get around the candied strawberry taste. Not my kind of fruited sour.

Grand Canyon Brewing out of Flagstaff Az teamed up w the Arizona Coyotes to produce this American Ale. Kachina Throwback American Ale is a tribute to the good old days when the sweaters had some local pride and the teams has a bit of flair. There is literally nothing on the website about this beer other than it's purchase contributes a portion of the proceeds to the Coyotes charity.(link:https://www.nhl.com/coyotes/community/foundation) This beer runs 4.9 ABV with 18 IBUs and the SRM is around 12 I'd say. The nose is very light citrus with a hint of beer. The mouth is pretty much a standard ale albeit a light ( not lite) one. Lightly bittered with a fast middle and a clean dry back end, this isn't anything special but it's completely serviceable. And it has a cool logo for the label ;)

Boulevard Brewing Tank 7 American Saison is everything I was looking for on this particular day. I will admit to some prejudice as I find most of their brews to hit right in my sweet spot. This one is another example of a fine 2 beer brew. Running 8.5 ABV with the IBUs t 35 and the SRM of 12 I can say this is one of the better after dinner libations. She hits the nose with a light Belgian aroma, sweet and floral. On the tongue she's showing more of the Belgian flavor and Sweet but not cloying. Citrusy fruit notes towards the end before it closes out. Medium fast thru the middle with an odd but bad finish on the back end. I like this company so take it for what you will. They make the beers I like and I like them for it.

Four Peaks is a local company to me and I like to drink local when possible and palatable.Sadly I don't really consider them to be local anymore. In 2018 they were bought out by AB InBev and if you've watched anything I've put up you know how I feel about global corporations and the food industry. I say sadly because this is a nice light Belgian style Witbier. A delicious Belgian nose that's neither understated not overpowering but much like the 3rd porridge,it's just right. The initial hit is light and tasty with a fast burn thru the middle and a clean and citrusy finish. I'd put this on par w the other globalist product Blue Moon which is AB InBevs main competitor Miller Coors. There are superior whites out there and I've praised them but this would do if I didn't have such mistrust for global conglomerates.
Thanks for swinging by and listening to me rant once again,

Yup this beer from Launitas , an " Ultra Mega Mondo" Red Ale is here for a limited time only. A rich and full well balanced red, this brew is a solid entry in their experimental series. Not bad for for a throw away but not something I'd brew to make the bucks on. She runs a solid 8.8 ABV with an IBU of "76.92" because 77 ins't specific enough lol. The OG or Specgrav is 1.085 and the SRM is a solid 15 by my eye. A nice brew to sort the day through with its interesting flip on the tongue. Worth taking a look it if you bend more to the malty side,

A nice one from Rogue Brewing out of Oregon. Sweet and malty up front, with a nice full mouth and a medium slow burn to a dirty malty finish. I'm not the biggest fan of Rogue and usually find their brews not to my liking but this one is acceptable and I would order it on tap. the ABV is 6.8, the IBUs are 40 and the listed SRM is 16. New Belgium Belgian Style Ale is another solid entry from one of the best breweries in America . This one medaled Gold in the US Open Beer Championships and it was well deserved. A nice light belgian nose belies the interesting flavor profile that comes on in waves. Running 8.5 ABV,43 IBUs and the SRM is a sweet golden 6 by my eye. This is a good solid brew.

I'm going to open this w a caveat that while I didn't review this very highly, It is quite a sneaky brew. I had no expectations of drinking more than a second beer while doing the editorial portion, I in fact wound up finishing off the 6 pack. I don't think it was the 7.3 ABV that made me finish them off but I'm sure it didn't hurt either. While it has a very interesting nose, I found the flavor profile to too light. Granted this could be due to my barbarians palate or the fact that my chemergies are kicking up but I'm going to go with them brewing it down for a broader appeal. Still a solid brew and I did indeed finish off the 6 pack without even noticing so I cannot knock this bad girl. Adjusted up to reflect the change in opinion *

Another fine example of the BrewMiesters art from Boulevard Brewing
out of KC Missouri. Thie Belgian Quadrupel (Quad) ale runs at 10.2 ABV, 22 IBUs and the SRM/EBC is listed at 73.2 but I'd've eyeballed it as maybe 15-18. A nice dark body and a clean off white head, this pours as delicious as it smells. The nose is sweet without being over powering. I didn't get the dark fruit or the normal Belgian aromas off this beer. The initial hit is full and rich, sweet but again not off the scale. The body is thick but not as heavy as you'd think, just a bit malty as the medium slow burn tapers off. She's not a dry beer but that isn't to her detriment either. Everything about this brew is deceptive, from the lack of ETOH tangover, to is solid but lightish body and to its ability to go down smooth and fast. The is another winner from the brewers at Boulevard. This is going into the rotation for post work libations this winter and probably the foreseeable future.
I know this is backwards. I'm trying to figure out how to invert it on either the camera or the editing software. Just please bear with me. If you have any suggestions I'd be happy to listen,

A Winter Ale that drinks like an IPA would be the best description of this brew. It hits with a citrusy punch that rolls over into the piney fast burn in the middle and a dirty dry and bitter finish. It's a thin brew which isn't the norm for a Winter Ale, I was expecting a much stouter profile and a fuller body. The ABV is 6.2 ,the IBUs are 55 and the SRM is up there in the 50s.
This definitely targeted towards the IPA crowd so if that's you, enjoy.

This beer was hard to find anything on, the company had closed and reopened is on the block once again. This sample was canned in Illinois by a 3rd party as opposed to Tuscon but was at least nice enough to give us the basics on the can.
A nice lightly beery nose,the initial hit is the same but builds fast to a full flavor w just a hint of sweetness.She has a medium fast middle and tails off to a clean and dry finish. Very drinkable and if this is an example of the skill employed in the rest of their brews it's a pity they can't keep the lights on. The ABV is 5.1 with 21 IBUs and the SRM is 4 by my eye for a nice solid Blonde. I hope they can get their issues squared up or someone who cares about the product buys them. I like locals because in this particular case Diversity is our Strength ;

This is a nice solid brew but not the Chocolate Chick beer your old lady might enjoy. Much more beer than hot cocoa and it appreciates all the better for it.
With the ABV running 6.0 the IBUs at 21 and a solid 20+ for the SRM this is an orderable beer but I couldn't knock too many of these back, too sweet and rich. Better suited for a couple by the fire outback than for regular pounding.

2nd to last of the beers shipped down to me from Oregon by Vexed Partisan. This is a pretty standard American Red Ale w a bit more bite than say something like Killians. Full and bitter in the initial hit, medium burn thru the middle, finishes up a little hoppy on the ass end. Pretty tasty overall and an easy drinker. The ABU is 5.0 the IBUs are 42 and the listed SRM is 15.
Thanks for coming by and looking at the work,
