A remarkable development in AI has emerged as Stanford and Seoul National University researchers create an artificial nerve system that gives prosthetic devices and robots a sense of touch. The work, reported in Science, is a step toward creating artificial skin for prosthetic limbs to give robots a reflex capability. "We take skin for granted but it's a complex sensing, signaling and decision-making system," said Zhenan Bao, one of the senior authors.
