How effective are low cost cloth and surgical masks in limiting the spread of SARS-CoV-2 in aerosols? Sometimes a visual with 5 masks and a pair of eyeglasses tells it best. Anyone who lives in a winter climate and can see warm moist breath condensing in the cold dry air, certainly can appreciate how far moisture from exhalation can travel outside. Imagine how far each exhaled breath travels inside a store after being forced through a wearable sieve under pressure that helps to aerosolize the droplets into smaller particles that stay aloft for hours. Masks DO NOT, and CANNOT ever stop transmission of an exhaled viral fragment! It's simple physics.
