Die große Göttin (= The great Goddess)
Say, who are you, wonderful, high, holy woman-deity
Adorned with golden hair, strolling through the German region?
I've heard you called by many names, always changing with the place and time
But it seems, to those who know you, that you are always the same
You like to pile up mountains of snowflakes, protection from the winter for the young seed
During autumn and spring storms, you like to go on your path through the winds
Or if the golden carriage gently carries you from house to house
Forever, where hearts beat for you, you spread blessings
Soon as Berchta with the distaff, you avoid wintertime
And distract the full distaffs and reward the hardworking maiden
Soon as Holda, distaff-aunt, you secretly roam through the realm
And it leans toward leaf and flower, and the cornfield's ear swells
Again then in holy groves, you drive as Nerthus through the land
And it tells of your arrival, luck and peace to every class
Iron sleeps, the weapons are silent, and the woe is dead
Joyful, you may climb to the bath in the mystical lake
Often deep in the forest shadows, one has sobbingly caught sight of you
As Freya once sent golden tears unto her spouses
Are you Freya, that brings joyful pleasure despite your own agony?
Are you really of the highest heights, are you Wodan's husband of light?
Pious hearth fires also blaze you in holy embers
And how yonder dear, young marriage is delightfully good to you
Or must I go deeper until I reach Hel, through tomb and grave?
Do you climb, to extort life, even down to the netherworld?
For the unborn rest there, waiting for you to free them
As you also pointed those lost early back to the paths
And so your hands tie the big ring of accomplishment:
Death and life, beginning, end, everything comes to your beckon
Holy goddess, you walk in many forms on German ground
And in the ministry your divinity will become known as diverse to us
Who you want to be, Frigga, fair, you add to Hellias' empires:
Me, in hair of thinning gold you are Mother Earth
Be blessed, Mother Earth, who calls us all to the light
Who in grievance and our hardship braids fruit and flower wreaths
Be blessed, Mother Earth, who gently surrounds us again
Until the big spring bursts through one of the underworld's gates
