Gemma O'Doherty debates Fiona O'Leary after successful Sligo meet-up for Anti-Corruption Ireland
Gemma O'Doherty debates Fiona O'Leary after successful Sligo meet-up for Anti-Corruption Ireland
Despite the efforts of opponents of Anti-Corruption Ireland, journalist Gemma O'Doherty succeeded in holding a meeting in Sligo with an estimated 200 supporters in attendance. O'Doherty called into Ocean FM to clarify why she has set-up her movement which she hopes will contest upcoming elections. She told Ocean FM that there will have to be criminal and financial sanctions for all public servants who abuse citizens' taxes including prison time for those who are found guilty and the loss of pensions.
Ocean FM reported that opponents of Anti-Corruption Ireland accuse them of "promoting "a right-wing agenda" and that "their public utterances are racist and homophobic."
Ocean FM talked to one supporter of Anti-Corruption Ireland called Simon who attended the Sligo meet-up. He told the radio station that he wanted to hear what O'Doherty has to say because she discussed issues that the mainstream media "won't touch with a barge poll" like corruption. He said he wouldn't describe anything O'Doherty says as racist or homophobic.
"What she is opposed to is that minors will be given hormone therapy when the identify as a different gender to which they were born in...without the permission of their parents."
Gemma was forced to hold her Sligo meeting outside the venue which she had booked when they cancelled on her three hours before the meeting was scheduled after pressure from opponents of Anti-Corruption Ireland. A sign with the word "racist" written on it was left outside the home of one of the sons of the owner of the bar.
O'Doherty said that this was no hard-ship for her or her supporters.
"The Irish people that came last night to stand up against the corruption infesting our state...every institution of our state...for them, it was no hardship to stand out in the rain because they love Ireland and they see Ireland going down the drain.
"They see their taxes being squandered. They see corruption everywhere. They see injustice. They see the media lying to them day in, day out. They see a health service in tatters and an education system that is a shambles and they say 'we're not taking this any more' and that is why I have established Anti-Corruption Ireland."
O'Doherty told Ocean FM that accusations of racism for her are any of the associates of ACI will not be tolerated and that the first she met at her Sligo meet-up was an African man who gave her a hug and that he was there because he was concerned about corruption and that he didn't think anyone was racist.
She said "a lovely Polish man" also gave a speech who believed that Ireland was going down the drain and that he couldn't get over how Irish people were allowing the desecration of their country to happen.
Fiona O'Leary, a campaigner for autistic rights, opposes Anti-corruption Ireland and called into the show too to explain why. She said the pillars of ACI really concern her, especially the one relating to vaccination. She accused O'Doherty of wanting to ban "life-saving vaccines". She said the HPV vaccine protects men and women from cancer. She also accused O'Doherty of trying to evict her from her council home.
"You have also gone out and made horrendous remarks about myself. I've had my home put online, on her twitter page...people threatening to attack me and my children. She has written to the council and tried to evict me."
Fiona O'Leary had previously linked to her address herself on her on twitter account when pranksters are alleged to have put an ad on reddit advertising her home for refugees and travellers over Christmas. She has since deleted the tweet but a screenshot remains here:
