Yes, I'm not just planting carrot seeds, but entire carrots this time. Why? Good question. You see, carrots are a type of plant that will go to seed the second year, if allowed to overwinter in the soil. Therefore, by actually planting an entire carrot, it is my belief that it will sprout up and go to seed in the spring. I could be wrong, but I think it'll work.
Recently, I came across a beautiful variety of organic carrots with a delightful spectrum of color. I'm hoping to collect my own seeds for these varieties next year, and be able to grow them for years to come. If it works, this will be even cheaper than buying carrot seeds, which can be extremely affordable anyway. If, however, it does not work, I'll only be out a couple bucks. I'll be sure to do an update in the spring and let you know how it works out.
