Ebert & Roeper: 7-27-03
Well, what do you know? I found another rare "Ebert & Roeper" episode!
Roger Ebert & Richard Roeper reviews "American Wedding" (Hilarious third installment in the "American Pie" franchise!), "Buffalo Soldiers" (A Fantastic Anti-War Comedy with Joaquin Phoenix, Ed Harris, Anna Paquin and Scott Glenn that got delayed for two years all because of the 9/11 tragedy and the War of Iraq! Meaning in the studios' motto of a dumbed-down PC culture, "Let's dumping them in the wrong months and year and become biggest flops at the Box Office that no audience will have a chance to see! Similar to the recent pandemic of today. Although some films were hits! Here's a historical note, During a press conference, a woman actually threw a water bottle at actress, Anna Paquin because of the movie. No joke!), "Spy Kids 3D: Game Over" (Saw this at the oldest, grimy and filthiest "Campus Theatre" in Hollywood, CA! It was unpleasant to watch with poor mono audio, the projection on the full frame screen was mediocre and the analgyph 3D glasses gave me a headache. The film was a disappointment after the first two "Spy Kids" films.), "Seabiscuit" (A second review and a magnificent achievement with Tobey Maguire, Chris Cooper and Jeff Bridges!), "Hotel" (Writer/Director, Mike Figgis' career was just going for ambiguous concepts of videotape footages with Hollywood actors. Like his previous film, "Timecode" in 2000 with multiple split-screens set in real time. I like him better when he did intelligent drama and thrillers like "Internal Affairs" and "Leaving Las Vegas".), "Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life" (While not a great sequel to the first "Tomb Raider", it's lots of fun, exciting and Angelina Jolie is sensational! As well as strong, sexy and intelligence as Lara Croft! I don't blame Ebert for his recommendation! Roeper is just full of himself as always!) and "Masked and Anonymous".
Thumbs Up Video: Roeper's pick is "Shanghai Knights" on DVD (I have that sequel along with the first, "Shanghai Noon" on Blu-ray. I did have just the sequel on DVD) and Ebert's pick is "Valley Girl" (The original and still the best teen flick! Screw the 2020 Musical Remake!) Also, "Casablanca" (I have the Double Feature Blu-ray with "The African Queen". Both excellent classics with Humphey Bogart!)
Plus, Local Commercials are included from KCRG ABC 9 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
