Seismologists say the Taal Volcano could erupt any day, following a series of earthquakes, rumblings and magma flows. The Taal Volcano lies just 65 kilometers south of Manila, which has closed its airport due to huge plumes of ash belching from the volcano. An alternative airport north of Manila at Clark freeport remained open but authorities would shut it down too if ashfall threatens flights, the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines said. The clouds have been generating volcanic lightning. Ashfall has made road travel dangerous in nearby towns. School classes have been canceled, and residents have been advised to stay indoors and use masks.
