Why did Jesus prevent the people from making him king?

Jesus is called a king in several verses, like Matthew 25:34 and Isaiah 9:6-7. God even crowned him in Psalms 110:1.

However, Jesus never accepted this title on Earth. He never attempted to be coronated, and even when people wanted him to be the official King of the Jews, he refused.

Jesus was a pretty humble man, but why would he reject a title that he already had? What was wrong with such a great guy becoming a monarch?
