Personhood simply means status. Persona in Latin means a mask. So person-hood is a legal mask one bears in society to show his or her status, and therefore the law that administrates that status. In the game of Monopoly, one's person is the game-piece one uses to "exist" and move in the fictional game environment, as real men cannot exist in fiction (legalism).
When the person (avatar) is charged, the man acting in persona must pay the debt. When the shoe game-piece lands on private property, the man using the show game-piece (person) must therefore pay for the shoe's (person's) trespass, and this relationship between man and person is called agency.
Because the status exists only in legal fiction, government owned the person the man uses, just as the show game-piece has no value or purpose outside the game board. The government is therefore the principal. All agents are employees of/bound in surety to the principal.
In essence, we use the person (status) only, with no ownership over it, and so like when renting a car, we must follow the legal law attached to that person, which is of course administered by the owner government (a municipal corporation).
