In today’s world, if you live in a big city, you're probably being captured by cameras multiple times a day. As an example, London has more than 400,000 cameras installed in public, according to a 2012 estimate; while Chicago boasts more than 17,000. China is at a whole new level, proudly proclaiming that it has "the world's biggest camera surveillance network”. This network has advanced facial-recognition technology that keeps track of its citizens. So far, China has 170 million CCTV cameras installed and operational across the country but it plans to install 400 million more in the next three years. Police in the city of Guiyang say they can match citizens' faces with their cars and track back their movements, day by day. Recently, it took seven minutes for police to catch a runaway journalist in that city.
