26 seconds intro with some Dutch
Laila Mol will talk to initiator of The Global Walkout, Monica Smit. Smit, indeed of Dutch descent with a Dutch father, experienced one of the strictest lockdowns in the world in her home country Australia during the ‘corona time’. According to her, all the frustration that her fellow Australians felt, dit not have an outlet, literally and figuratively. The government determined what was essential: only essential workers were allowed to go outside, only essential products could be bought, and only what was permitted could be said. Smit organized digital protests, among other things, and was arrested due to her ‘activism’ and for unclear reasons kept in an isolation cell for 22 days.
She herself sees this, although it was anything but pleasant at the time, as something that has led to something very beautiful: The Global Walkout. She used her frustration as the fire that lit this initiative.
In this video she describes this worldwide initiative, stresses the importance of international cooperation and explains which successive steps one can (voluntarily!) be taken, to not serve the government, but oneself. Think, for example, of paying with cash, buying locally, leaving banks and avoiding mainstream media.
