PETER (dictionary definition): Peter [Middle English; Old English]; Petrus [Latin]; Pétros [Greek]; stone, translation of kēfā [Syriac].
Our Lord named His Apostle "Peter", referred to him as a "rock" He would build His church upon & gave him "the keys of the kingdom of heaven" (Matt. 16:18-19):
And I say to thee: That thou art Peter; and upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. And I will give to thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven. And whatsoever thou shalt bind upon earth, it shall be bound also in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose upon earth, it shall be loosed also in heaven. - Matthew 16:18-19
Jesus founded His church, the Catholic Church, through the apostle St Peter (Matthew 16:18-19 & 1 Timothy 6:12) who, like the apostle St Paul, is historically documented to have been martyred in Rome. That's why Jesus' church has been centered in Rome since its inception.
And if he will not hear them: tell the church. And if he will not hear the church, let him be to thee as the heathen and publican. - Matthew 18:17
Without the Catholic Church, there wouldn't even be a Bible. All the early church fathers who walked & learned with the Apostles believed in traditional Catholic teaching, i.e., necessity of water baptism, baptizing infants, confession to a priest, true presence of Christ in the Eucharist, etc. Here are some videos that are highly recommended:
