I read that guards told him they could get him out of his prison - it was about 30 days before the end of WWII or just longer - but Dietrich refused citing "solidarity with the prisoners".

In hindsight, I believe that he should have taken God's Way of Escape but i do understand the bonds that can be formed in prison with other prisoners.
