The name of the garden pest is a squash bug. A video had a great tip of using duct tape around your hand sticky side out (some people have to be told that...sigh) and placing it over the eggs to remove them.
I'm going to try a cotton ball soaked in rubbing alcohol to kill the larva and if I have to, will resort to the spork. The spork is very effective, but also very time consuming!
