Tampering with evidence such as a confiscated firearm known as evidence is a crime. The police cannot tamper with evidence such as deactivating this device while in there custody or possession without a direct court order allowing them to do so by a judge that needs to sign off on a case by case situation. Im not a lawyer and this is my interpertation of the laws
