Passion and Death of Christ (1903)

Vie et Passion du Christ (Life and Passion of Christ, re-titled as Passion and Death of Christ in the US) was co-directed by early filmmakers Lucien Nonguet and Ferdinand Zecca.
The film, the earliest Biblical work known to still exist, uses a fascinating combination of matte-painted scenery and effects with a few camera dissolves thrown in. Notably, this is also the first known feature-length film(nearly 44 minutes) and also the first to use the Pathe Stencil-tinting process, most of which remain in this print. Aside from a few broadly-translated scene titles ('Priest' is translated as 'Doctor' for example) The movie seems to be an accurate rendition of the Gospels as written...Silent, Tinted.
