Ruairí Ó Brádaigh reads the 'Historic Sinn Féin Declaration' to the assembled media on November 2, 1986 after the reconvened Ard-Fheis had decided to reorganise using the name Republican Sinn Féin. He said: "It cannot now be said that there is no organised body of political opinion in Ireland which rejects the 26-County neo-colonial state set up here by England in 1921."

Ruairí Ó Brádaigh was an Irish republican political and military leader. He was Chief of Staff of the Irish Republican Army from 1958 to 1959 and again from 1960 to 1962, president of Sinn Féin from 1970 to 1983, and president of Republican Sinn Féin from 1987 to 2009
