A Liberal candidate in Victoria, Australia has cancelled a scheduled interview with Sky News after requesting questions about her controversial comments on same-sex marriage be omitted. A recording from 2016 interview with The Guardian shows Gladys Liu, the party’s candidate for the Victorian seat of Chisholm, appearing to describe LGBTI issues as ‘ridiculous rubbish’. Ms Liu said during a forum on Sunday that she was conveying the attitudes of the Chinese community in her division, not her personal views.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison has defended the Victorian Liberal candidate Gladys Liu as she comes under fire for controversial comments made about same-sex marriage in a 2016 interview. A recording from an interview with The Guardian in 2016 shows Ms Liu appearing to describe LGBTI issues as 'ridiculous rubbish' and same-sex marriage as 'against normal practice'. Mr Morrison has backed Ms Liu's claims that she was conveying the attitudes of the Chinese community in her division, not her personal views.
