GOLDEN HOUR HAUL | SURPRISE VINTAGE TRIP | COLUMBUS, GEORGIA
A funny thing happened on the way to the Nashville Flea Market! I got waylaid in Florida and changed my route upon discovering an estate sale in a small town historic home. That led me to Columbus, Georgia, where I stumbled across the last day of a funky antique shop's retirement sale. Never did get to Nashville, but some fun stuff materialized in this surprise side trip, and I wanted to show it to you before it all sells!
The Victorian house estate turned up both true antiques and vintage kitchenware, from Sterling capped cut glass dresser jars and an 1890s patent pitter/corer to Pyrex Town and Country (thank you to Paula for helping me identify that pattern!). A favorite find was a 1910s print of Dickens' Pecksniff.
Antiques and vintage filled the Columbus store, and a lovely Art Nouveau desk set, FDR bookends and a surprisingly modernist McCoy vase turned up there.
I also learned (eventually) that a Stoneware vase that looked like Kentucky's Bybee Pottery is actually from Illinois. A pair of polio crutches told the story of a child's recovery, while a bank from the Harris County Stadium proved valuable for a surprisingly reason.
A list of other highlights follows below…
I hope my review of what I found in southwestern Georgia helps you learn more about antique and vintage items, and share my encounters with them in the real world. I love sharing our passion and this community, and hope we will all help each other with our antique education.
Here’s some more of what I find:
Catalina island pottery, vintage kitchenware, Fiesta, real photo baseball postcard, black amethyst blotter, bombé jewelry casket, Nehi soda band, Shriners ashtray, Chokin Ware, Golden Age postcards
