These two boys were abandoned by their coyote in the Rio Grande River. Biden changed the policy to allow children to remain in the US if they cross the border. This started a flood of parents in Central America to pay the cartels to traffick their children on an incredibly dangerous journey 1,000 miles across Mexico into the US. Thousands of kids have already arrived and thousands more are on the way. The parents hope that, after they grow up in the US, they can help them immigrate or obtain other benefits. Would you you exploit your child in this way?
Along the way, the kids may be abducted for sexual exploitation or kidnapped by a rival cartel and held for ransom. If the ransom is not paid, the captive is generally killed, not released. The coyotes may abandon them in the desert, or, as here, in the Rio Grande river. No one normally knows what the cartels do, because the news outlets in Mexico are too intimidated to report on the cartels and the local police, likewise, seldom investigate their crimes.
These are the same cartels that murdered 36,000 people in Mexico last year, including rival drug dealers, politicians and police. This is much like a new form of the slave trade. The smuggling fee costs around $8,000-$12,000 per person. Often a part of it is borrowed from the cartel and the person has to pay off the debt by working for the cartel in some way, indentured servitude.
