Sense A Cyberpunk Ghost Story - Playthrough Part 7 (Ending)
The time has come for Mei's final showdown with Fei Fei. You face her on the top floor where her wedding was taking place and where she was killed likely by the mobsters under her father or possibly his rivals. After a brief fight Mei manages to overcome Fei Fei, but unfortunately our heroine got cursed by the ghost before the apparition got dragged to hell. Mei was dragged too, but she fired the uzi and got rescued by the police in the last moment. Then you get to play with her sister Maiko to try to figure out what happened to Mei. It's implied that her soul remains trapped inside the building much like all the other ghosts, while her body remains a shell. A pretty dark ending, but it got me wondering if there was a better outcome (since for example the uzi is easily missable and I'm not really sure whether I should've taken the evil Daoshi's sword). Then again this could be the set up for a sequel. On a more positive note there's a cameo from Count Dankula while you control Maiko.
I really enjoyed this game. It's atmospheric, the ghosts do look scary and it does a wonderful job building up tension. The visuals are great and while the animations can be a bit stiff, the character models look great. The puzzles are engaging, but sometimes some of them feel like trial and error until you figure out the correct way of doing things. The combat which appears towards the end of the game is very limited and somewhat clunky, but I guess the devs wanted a final boss to fight. The story is quite interesting and my interpretation is that Mei is Fei Fei's future relative from the mother who abandoned the family. The time travelling shenanigans are still a bit weird though and so is Fei Fei's motivation other than blind revenge. The only way to follow what's going on is to carefully read all the diaries and even then the overall story may still be somewhat confusing, but the game more than makes up for the vague story with an interesting setting and giving all the ghosts some humanity from their previous lives. When I finished the game I had the desire to immediately replay it and see if I can change things and discover more secrets and I may the opportunity to do given the New Game + option and some extra story taking place in the past. I would definitely recommend this game to fans of adventure and horror games. While those are not usually my genres I had a blast playing it.
