Deet is a very strong solvent for some plastics, and the spray type bottle that DEET comes in tends to leaks after just a few uses. If carry the bottle of deet in your pack or bag it will tend to leak on your other things. I personally have damaged sunglasses, water bottle pouch and backpacks.

I found a solution.
I use LDPE bottles with micro applicator tips, and spill proof lids. These bottles will not leak if closed correctly.
