"About a half-century ago, there was an experiment of mouse Utopia.
In the experiments, Calhoun and his researchers created a series of "rat utopias" - enclosed spaces in which rats were given unlimited access to food and water, enabling unfettered population growth.
Calhoun’s experiments, which started with rats an outdoor pen and moved on to mice at the National Institute of Mental Health during the early 1960s, were interpreted at the time as evidence of what could happen in an overpopulated world. The unusual behaviors he observed he dubbed "behavioral sinks."
To a society experiencing the rapid growth of cities, in various ways, quite poorly—this story seemed familiar.
What will be the cost of our pursuit of a Utopic Society?"
