The threat over a third World War over what is happening in Eastern Europe right now is VERY REAL, but still there are naysayers who think it is not possible, they are very mistaken. Various Russian officials have already said if Russia faces a serious existential threat (meaning losing in Ukraine, etc..) to her, nuclear weapons will be used.
“The defeat of a nuclear power in a conventional war may trigger a nuclear war,” - Medvedev
But will Ukraine be successful? I still say no, but they are igniting a War which will not stop in Ukraine's eastern territories.
