JQA and Henry Clay were like mentors almost to Abraham Lincoln. These were people who wanted a strong national bank under control of the government rather than privately owned like our Federal Reserve. And they wanted to use it for investment into infrastructure to keep the cost of living down and make the USA one big unified country from sea to sea. Our current welfare handout programs make a bad mockery of the kind of activist government the aforementioned men desired. Very forward looking, very ambitious, and very optimistic unlike the antidevelopment overpopulation fear mongering lefties of today.

Above is a NYT book review of this biography, "John Quincy Adams Militant Spirit" I've recently become of mind that JQA is one of America's greatest presidents and am consuming a lot of content on him.
