RTÉ's Drivetime heard that a committee from Oughterard who travelled to Dublin to have meetings with both Minister David Stanton and Direct Provision operator Seán Lyons of Fazyard felt they had been intimidated by Lyons.
Fazyard has purchased the Connemara Gateway Hotel in Oughterard and has tendered an application with the government to use it for accommodating asylum seekers. The Sunday Business Post reported that Fazyard last year received €5.5 million for housing about 500 asylum seekers, bringing its total to €33 million over 12 years.

Oughterard local John Gibney said he was disappointed with his meeting with Minister David Stanton as the "inability to answer simple questions was shocking to say the least."
He said the meeting with Fazyard owner Seán Lyons started out as an informal chat over coffee. Lyons told him that Fazyard had purchased the hotel and an application to use it for accommodating asylum seekers had been tendered which was more than Minister Stanton would admit.
However, after the meeting, the committee was very disturbed and upset and reported concerns their to the Salthill gardai that they had felt they had been intimidated.
Galway TD Seán Kyne who was also at the meeting told Drivetime that he heard Seán Lyons say he had ex-army rangers working for him and he was "not going to give into threats to his property".
Gibney said that on one hand it was a cordial meeting but that there was "a clear intent to give us a message and that was one of intimidation".
"He was at pains to point out to us that his security firm was all made up of ex army rangers. He told us he had people on the ground attending our meetings who reported back to him on what was happening. "
