Flute Concerto in G major, H. 445, Wq. 169 by Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach

Carl Philipp Emmanual Bach (second son of Johann Sebastian Bach) would complete this concerto for flute orchestra in 1755. At the time, CPE Bach was in the service of the court Frederick the Great of Prussia in Berlin. While in this role, CPE Bach would compose several works for the court as well as performing on the clavier in royal concerts. Additionally, CPE Bach would write treatises on music, one of which called ‘An Essay on the True Art of Playing Keyboard Instruments’ would be a book studied by both Haydn and Beethoven.

This concerto is comprised of three movements:
I. Allegro
II. Largo
III. Presto
