Hey kids (of all ages), it's Saturday Morning Cartoon time again!
During the transition from the primordial Harman–Ising era to their Golden Age, WB cartoons were blessed with the warped, frenetic genius of Tex Avery. Though perhaps the suits didn't appreciate it as much as they should have. One weird character he created would evolve to be an essential component of some of the greatest animated shorts ever.
"Character" may be too strong of a term though. This little guy's design, wardrobe, and voice were rather inconsistent from one picture to the next. His name, "Egghead", managed to be both literal (his head was indeed egg-shaped) and ironic at the same time. (He appeared to be the opposite of an intellectual, which is what his name was slang for.)
Contrary to what the title (which is based on a Western Movie trope) might suggest, EGGHEAD RIDES AGAIN was his first short.
From 1937.
