The Norco Bank Robbery or Shootout, refers to an armed confrontation between five heavily armed anarchist bank robbers and deputies of the Riverside County and San Bernardino County Sheriffs' Departments as well as member of the California Highway Patrol, that occurred in Norco, California on 5/9/1980.
This film was created by the Irvine Police Department in the aftermath of the robbery and it is frequently employed as an instructional aid in the classrooms of police academies throughout the USA. Officer Rolf Parkes, who was actually involved in the incident, later transferred to the Irvine Police Department and assisted in the production of the film.
Two of the five perpetrators and one sheriff's deputy were killed, eight other law enforcement officers, one citizen and two other perpetrators were wounded, and massive amounts of gunfire damaged at least 30 police vehicles, a police helicopter and numerous nearby homes and businesses.
