On November 03, 1979 the EUROPE KICKBOXING CHAMPIONSHIPS (IBF) were held at the Great Sports Arena within the city of Aalter / Belgium. Today we celebrate the 40th ANNIVERSARY of said event and review some of the full contact action highlights. We enjoy this opportunity to take a look at some VERY RARE FOOTAGE, as most of the original films had been lost throughout the years. Luckily, the full contact kickboxing fight highlights saved also feature the most dramatic fight of the evening, the championship bout of WOLFGANG HERKENROTH, that is. Although having been knocked down in the first round by a very strong French opponent, Wolfgang suddenly turned the fight in rounds 2 and 3, and knocked down his opponent twice to capture the victory and the championship title -74 Kg.
CEMAL COLAK won the welterweight division and championship title -69 Kg. HERBERT BIBER was victorius in the super lightweight division -63 Kg (despite weighin only 59 Kg), stopping Belgium champion Van de Fenn, who had a prior winning streak of 13 consecutive KO wins, by TKO in round 3.
