Geometry 13.2a, Theoretical Probability & Complement of an event

We start the lesson with the review of probability, event, result of a probability experiment, outcome, and sample space. Probabilities are written as fractions or decimals from 0 to 1, or as percentages from 0% to 100%. Equally likely outcomes have the same chance of occurring. Favorable outcomes are outcomes in a specified event. Theoretical probability of an event is the ratio of the number of favorable outcomes to the total number of outcomes. We find the probability of an event that a spinner will point to a particular color, then we find the probability that a nickel, dime, and quarter will land the same way when they are flipped. We discuss the complement of an event with an example. We find the probability of an event by using a permutation.
