President Trump: Kavanaugh HOAX "Set Up By The Democrats" & Rosenstein Press Conference 10/8/18
President Trump: Kavanaugh HOAX "Set Up By The Democrats" & Rosenstein Press Conference 10/8/18
President Donald Trump unloaded on Senate Democrats Monday morning for their handling of Supreme Court justice Brett Kavanaugh‘s confirmation process, calling the accusations that were leveled against Kavanaugh “a hoax.” “I thought the way they behaved was absolutely atrocious,” Trump said. “The way they conducted themselves… the way they really torred him and his family, it was a disgrace.” The president responded to a potential effort to impeach Kavanaugh — a man who he says is “brilliant jurist” and “did nothing wrong.” Trump called the impeachment effort “an insult to the American public.
“I think you’re going to see a lot of things happen on November 6th that would not have happened before,” Trump said. “The American public has seen this dishonesty by the Democrats. And when you mention impeach a justice of the United States Scotus — who was a top scholar, top student, top intellect and who did nothing wrong… there was no corroboration of any kind. [He] went through seven FBI investigations and had nothing to do with any of this stuff.” Trump doubled down on his claim that the accusations against Kavanaugh were part of “a hoax that was set up by the Democrats,” and had quite the prediction leading into the midterm elections. “It was all made up,” Trump insisted. “It was fabricated, and it’s a disgrace. I think a lot of Democrats are going to vote Republican because… I think a lot of Democrats are going to be voting Republican on November 6th”
Trump said Monday that he gets along “very well” with Rosenstein.
“I didn’t know Rod before but I’ve gotten to know him and I get along very well with him,” Trump said.
President Trump Holds Press Conference On Kavanaugh HOAX & Good Relationship With Rosenstein 10/8/18
President Donald Trump says he doesn't have plans to fire Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein.
Rosenstein's job security has been under question since news reports last month that he had discussed possibly secretly recording Trump to expose chaos in the White House and invoking constitutional provisions to get him removed from office.
Rosenstein is joining Trump aboard Air Force One to an event in Florida on Monday, a likely indication that his dojj job is at least temporarily safe.
Trump told reporters Monday that he has a "very good relationship" with Rosenstein. Their meeting two weeks ago was postponed amid the Supreme Court nomination hearings.
President Trump: “I think a lot of Democrats are going to vote Republican… the main base of the Democrats has shifted so far left, that we’ll end up being Ven.”
“I look forward to being with him, that’ll be very nice,” Trump told reporters Monday. “We’re going to be talking. We’ll be talking on the plane.” “I actually have a good relationship -- other than there’s been no collusion folks, no collusion,” Trump continued, using a phrase he often employs to describe the special counsel investigation into Russian interference, which Rosenstein oversees at the doj. “I have a very good relationship. We’ll see,” Trump said. Rosenstein has been under the spotlight for several weeks, as a result of a New York Times report that he discussed secretly taping the president and recruiting cabinet members to invoke the 25th amendment in conversations last year. Rosenstein has vigorously denied the report, but still it prompted wide speculation that he could resign or be fired. Trump has repeatedly delayed a tentatively planned meeting with the deputy attorney general about the report, the White House saying last week that Trump would push it until after the nomination of his Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh.
Trump has at times taken aim at Rosenstein and Jeff Sessions, his agl, over the Russia investigation. It was Rosenstein who last year appointed Robert Mueller as special counsel to investigate Russian interference, including whether there was collusion between Trump’s campaign.
