SPOILERS IN THE DESCRIPTION! READ AT YOUR OWN RISK!
With the sudden murder investigation being brought to a close, everyone heads to the site of the Class Trial, although things get off to a rather ludicrous start when someone goes radically off-topic right out of the gate, forcing Neo and Makoto to waste time on a nonsensical contradiction. But after getting things back on track, everybody tries piecing together what they can about the victim, who is firmly established during the trial to be Mukuro Ikusaba, and their actions leading up to their death. The provided clues paint a vague and incomplete picture, but despite this the trial moves ahead... until Neo and Makoto find themselves having to defend their innocence in a duel of sorts between Makoto and Kyoko, when Kyoko starts finding ways that evidence implicating her of the crime could also have been committed by Makoto. Kyoko warns everyone to not place the blame for Mukuro's death on her, because, in her words, if she dies then so does solving the mystery of Hope's Peak Academy, and she makes it clear through her actions throughout the trial that she doesn't intend to go down without a serious fight... but neither are Neo and Makoto.
It is then that it slowly becomes apparent that everything about the entire Class Trial is fishy, but by the time Neo and Makoto seriously start considering the oddities of the trial they soon find themselves having to make a decision... and both outcomes lead to him falling into a deadly trap...
