"One woman was arrested on Monday after she treated the street of Cleveland like San Andreas, taking the police a nearly fatal high-speed chase that involved a multi-car collision.
According to a local CBS affiliate, Imani Edwards was heading northbound on I-77 when the State Highway Patrol tried to flag her down for a traffic stop. Edwards didn't pull over, deciding instead to try to evade the police. Eventually, with the help of Newburgh Heights police, the authorities cornered Edwards mini-van. But when the police approached her window to place her under arrest, Edwards took this opportunity to attempt another escape. Again, the driver mashed on the gas, crashing into the back of several police cars in the process. Finally, after damaging several vehicles and hitting a utility pole, police were able to force Edwards off the road and take her into custody.
Although most wouldn't go to these lengths, anyone with a 9-to-5 knows that a traffic ticket could really throw a wrench in the schedule. As a result, fellow workers can empathize with Edwards claims that she was only avoiding arrest because she was already running late for work. While her reasoning is hilarious, Newburgh Heights authorities were not amused by Edwards' antics.
"Their lives were at stake, she almost ran them over," Newburgh Height's Police Chief John Majoy told reporters. "That’s a 2,000-pound weapon coming at you, [the officers] jumped out of the way just in the nick of time, to save their own lives."
Fortunately, neither Edwards nor the cops were hurt during the chase. Edwards has now been charged with one count of felonious assault as well as failure to comply."
