Spherical (1994, Atari ST)

Not to be confused with the game of the same name by Rainbow Arts from 1989. Spherical is a platformer by Dutch developer Fusion Design. You need to prevent an evil scientist, who has transferred you to the 13th dimension, from destroying the world. Both your character and enemies are compromised of balls of various size and colour. The art style is similar to games like Vectorman or Ballz 3D, but here the sprites are drawn, not pre-rendered 3D or real-time 3D. You also shoot balls as a weapon. Depending on whether you are standing or ducking, your shots will either fly on a straight line, or bounce of the ground. The game does scroll, but blends over to a new screen once you reach the border. There is no direct time limit, but if you stay on a single screen for too long, a seemingly invincible enemy will appear and chase you.
