ISIS cell in Galway - "We have returning ISIS fighters and families in the country now"

Norma Costello spoke to Pat Kenny about "ISIS bride" Lisa Smith who is still in Syria and told him that Smith would be less of a danger back in Ireland rather than in Syria as she would be able to identify ISIS fighters and families who have already returned here. She also said that there was an ISIS cell in Galway.

Costello told Pat Kenny that the Irish government could have repatriated Lisa Smith back to Ireland using diplomacy with the Kurds. She said Smith was the first of "many, many cases" of ISIS supporters who travelled to the Islamic state from Ireland but who now wanted to return here. Another case spotlighted in the media was a Belarussian called Alexander Bekmirzev who claimed asylum in Ireland but subsequently withdrew his claim when he sham-married a British waitress working in Dublin for €3,000. He also left Ireland to fight for ISIS but now wants to return here with his family.

Costello says she has been doing research on jihadis in Ireland for the last 12 weeks "and it is not a good picture" and she claims security reports are painting an opposite picture of evidence she has uncovered. She says she is baffled that the Irish government don't want to help repatriate Lisa Smith in order to use her as an intelligence asset.

Previously it was revealed that ISIS jihadis who have Irish passports and went to support the Islamic State in Syria will not face jail time according to Former army Lt Col Michael C. Murphy because the government never made any laws against their activities despite being warned my members of the Irish army.
