The underwater war served as inspiration for many aspects of combat swimming used in Fleming's post-war James Bond 007 novels; there is a limit to the currents and cold that a man can endure, however. This caused all combatants to create increasingly sophisticated DRY submersibles leading to the most spectacular mini-submarine raid of all time: Operation SOURCE in 1943.
