Cycling along the river Oude Rijn ('Old Rhine'). 1/6

I believe this is my first video showing this pontoon/ferry. It is hand operated and there's at least one more that I know of. (shown in the opening frame) Unfortunately, my bicycle fell down when I was on the ferry so I'll show a ride on the ferry some other time. In this 1st part of 6 episodes the river does not yet appear. In the rest of the clips it does. This river was the most northern boundary of the Roman empire. Along this border (Limes) they built lots of fortresses. Nowadays Roman finds regularly show up when dredging the river or building houses.

A lot of my video's finish with a frame of the church. The tower is the oldest part of the building and is claimed to be 11th century (1000 AD). It used to be catholic but nowadays it's a protestant church.

This channel is my attempt to share with you the peace and quiet I experience whilst riding my bicycle in the Netherlands.
