When we reach the light, the Leviathan rises from the sand and eats us too. It's the only way to get to the treasure. We meet Scarlett who tells us her pet, Roscoe, that got eaten long ago is still alive and he turns out to be a Rakk Hive. After killing him, Scarlett makes her escape and then the Leviathan throws us back up. We kill the Leviathan and the Treasure of the Sands is ours. We're not done yet though. There's one more thing to do and NO, we're not killing raid bosses even though this DLC has two of them.
