The Renaissance master Botticelli spent over a decade painting and drawing hell as the poet Dante described it. The film is inspired by the drawing that Botticelli dedicated to Dante's Inferno. But what prompted the Florentine master - whom we all know thanks to the "Birth of Venus" and "Primavera" in the Uffizi - to draw the hell painted by Dante? What is the secret of this extraordinary work of art? And how does it reveal Botticelli's dark and lesser-known side?
Botticelli actually revived Dante's descriptions in a total of 102 detailed drawings. The focus of the work is precisely the "Map of Hell": a sort of guide through hell with all its various levels. A fascinating and at the same time heinous work on sinners and counterpoints, nightmares and punishments.
Botticelli. Inferno will transport viewers to another world: a journey into the upside down through the nine levels of hell. Just like in Dante's work, in fact, only by crossing Hell and Purgatory can you reach Paradise and go out "to see the stars".
