TAUGHT WHILE BLACK

@pushing_black • Forensic Science teacher Susan McCoy has taught at Pebblestone High School in Mableton, Georgia for years. According to Public School Review, Pebblestone High School has a school population of 2500 students, 59% of whom are Black, 33% of whom are Hispanic, and 6% of whom are white. According to comments on Twitter today, she has demonstrated anti-Blackness throughout the years and it came as no surprise to her current and past students and coworkers that she made the comments that she did. @Genn.ey posted a video from her Forensics Science class today in which McCoy went out of her way to blame Breonna Taylor for her own death, without bothering to even learn her last name. It is disturbing that someone so racist and so cavalier about commenting on the murder of an innocent woman in her home would be teaching anyone about any subject related to law enforcement. The video was shared on Twitter and has been seen hundreds of thousands of times. The Cobb County School District’s social media accounts messaged individual users the run-of-the-mill “We’re looking into this” messages, but we probably won’t hear of any action to be taken against McCoy until next week.

This is disgusting and all too common. It highlights once again why we need to have our own schools and provide education for our children that’s free of this kind of racist behavior.
