The 1959 Corvette Concept paved the way for the second generation of corvette.

The car was developed in the styling studios at General Motors (GM) as a private project of Bill Mitchell, GM Vice President of styling, who personally financed the car's development.

The design was based on a sketch by designer Pete Brock. There was further developed by Larry Shinoda. The car strongly influenced the styling of the second generation (C2) Corvette Sting Ray, and was developed at a time when the car industry was trying to voluntarily ban the development of performance cars and performance car products.
