Fantaisie for flute and piano, Op. 79 by Gabriel Fauré

Fauré completed this short work for flute and piano in 1898 on behalf of a commission from French flautist Paul Taffanel for a flute competition to be conducted at the Conservatoire de Paris. The premiere performance (given eight times) of the work was given in July of 1989 at the competition itself.

The work is comprised of two movements:
I. Andantino
II. Allegro
