I thought the box was empty when it arrived, that is how lightweight this new £22.99 30cm light fixture from Aourow really is. That is no disadvantage as it looks good and the light weight makes it easier to install and less likely to fall down once in place.
In the box was the light fixture itself, a full fixing kit including screws, junction box, cable connector, right-angled mount adaptor, two grommets and a large and well printed but rather basic user Guide. The unit does not have a switch or dimming control and has no plug as it is designed to be controlled from your existing wiring and switches. The unit is IP44 water resistant and should be fine for general bathroom use. Build quality seems fine given the price, everything included seems of decent quality and well made. The User Guide shows you the two mounting methods well enough although more detail and a list of components included would have been nice. Note the unit is not designed to be wall mounted.
The fitting can be installed either directly to the mirror or to the top of your bathroom cabinet or other existing fixture. An adaptor is included for this which pushes into the base of the unit, secured in place by two plastic screws, and which allows the light to be mounted away from the wall and screwed directly to the top of the bathroom cabinet.
When fitted directly to the mirror the top edge of the mirror must not be flush to the wall. The top of the mirror is designed to slide into the slot on the base of the lamp fixture and held in place by the same two plastic screws used to secure the right-angled fitting. To do this the mirror needs to be removed from the wall, the light fixture secured, and the whole assembly reattached to the wall. Due to the light weight of the unit it could probably be fitted and held in place by gravity without using the screws but this is best avoided.
When assembled and working the unit looks good. The 500 Lumen light is even, balanced and a pleasant cool white in colour. It is fine for use with a mirror or cabinet but not bright enough to illuminate the entire bathroom. Note too that the light output cannot be varied using a dimmer switch.
This is an excellent quality budget priced specialised light fixture that is easy to install and works well.
