Hammer Of The Gods - Nietzsche selections translated and arranged by Stephen Metcalf, Introduction: "Even When The Heart Bleeds", Section 2: THE ECSTACY OF THE TRAGIC/SELF-OVERCOMING
Our historical position at the end of the Christian Era is unique but by no means unprecedented: we are living through a tragic age, not unlike that experienced by the ancient Athenians experienced; the comedic age is followed by a tragic one- and what was the post-war boomer age, with its rise of the broadcast screen-centric media regime if not a prolonged comedy? It was not the priest or pastor, scientist or philosopher- but the comedian who was indeed the dominant intellectual force shaping Occidental culture from the CE1970s through the early CE2000s, not simply as the "stand up" performer, but also in the writer's rooms that formed the backbone of the unequivocally preeminent cultural concatenations. They chuckled their way through the Sixth Great Extinction and rested atop the abject desecration of the American imperium.. and now their time is over. A novel set of psychical conditions surmounts the giggling hordes, a new emergent species of self-overcoming, chance-embracing, chalice-wielding wanton ones are rising to unseat the last men and usher in a dawning age amidst the destruction wrought by clown world. It wont be pretty, but it will be- necessary. There is much to overcome. Incipit Tragoedia..
A beautifully written passage! Definitely some significant influence of Delueze's Nietzsche in this passage. I wish there hadn't been so many flubbs in this one, but oh well.. #Nietzsche #stephenmetcalf #philosophy #antichrist #apocalypse #endtimes #deathofgod #CCRU
