This is the first part in a how to series on creating your own cascade/ semi cascade bonsai. This video focuses on the latter (semi cascade) but the same rules apply to cascades just extended further.
The semi cascade is defined by a trunk that not standing up right but not horizontal. Similar to a windswept.
The trunk than end either at the height or just below the pot rim.
The semi cascade is more horrizontal than a cascade.
You will almost always see cascades in a tall pot. Exceptions occur where the pot is kept on a tal stand to mimic the effect of a tall pot by raizing a short one higher.
This is a good style for beginners as it is open to interpretation. There are rules but they are more like guidelines. You can use your own methods to train the tree.
One thing not said in the video is that these trees are secured in a down ward direction by wiring the trunk with a tie down wire that goes under the pot. You can just wire the trunk but as it grows from a young tree the trunk wil b epulled up. With an older tree with a heavier trunk you do not need to do this.
